Calm by 5 Seconds of Summer is a genre-bending rollercoaster that smashes together Pop, Pop/Rock, and Dance-Pop like it’s nobody’s business. Released in 2020 under Capitol Records in Japan, this record doesn’t just sit there looking pretty; it punches you in the gut with raw emotion and hooks so sticky they’ll cling to your brain for days. First off, let’s talk about “Easier.” I mean, damn, this track hits hard. It's sleek, sexy, and dripping with swagger. The bassline alone could make your mom start dancing at a wedding reception. But what really sticks? The lyrics—they’re vulnerable as hell, talking about love falling apart while still sounding like a club anthem. And yeah, okay, fine, there’s also an actual music video AND behind-the-scenes footage on the album, which feels kinda extra but honestly works. You feel connected to the band, like you’re peeking into their messed-up lives for three minutes. Love it or hate it, you won’t forget it. Then there’s “Teeth,” which is basically the evil twin of “Easier.” This song bites back—pun intended. It’s darker, grittier, and has this eerie vibe that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. It is very odd how the band has finally matured in their songwriting but decided to dumb down their hooks. The correct word is disappointing since that is the feeling when the hooks are so generic while both the songwriting and the production on the verses feel far superior.
