Someplace Special by Admit You're Shit: A Chaotic Love Letter to Hardcore Punk Alright, let’s get real for a sec. Someplace Special by Admit You’re Shit isn’t your typical rock album—it’s more like an unfiltered scream into the void, but somehow it feels… personal. Released back in 2004 on Mortarhate Records (props to them for putting out wild stuff like this), the UK-based band managed to mash together rock, pop/rock, and alternative vibes with hardcore punk grit. And honestly? It works. Mostly because it doesn’t try too hard to be perfect. First off, the tracklist is kinda bonkers—there are multiple parts of “Someplace Special” scattered all over the place, like they couldn’t decide where one song ends and another begins. But weirdly enough, that chaos makes sense once you dive in. If I had to pick two tracks that stuck with me, I’d go with Do You Know What You’re Doing? and Expect No Mercy. Do You Know What You’re Doing? hits different. Like, right from the first riff, it grabs you by the collar and shakes you awake. The vocals sound raw, almost desperate, as if the singer’s pissed at himself as much as he is at whoever he’s yelling about. There’s no sugarcoating here; it’s messy, loud, and brutally honest. I remember blasting this while walking home late one night, and suddenly every streetlight seemed brighter, every shadow darker. It just felt important, ya know? Then there’s Expect No Mercy, which is straight-up relentless. This one’s got teeth. The drums punch through like machine gun fire, and the guitar work is sharp enough to cut glass. It’s not a song you listen to casually—it demands your attention. When the chorus kicks in, it’s like being hit by a wave you didn’t see coming. By the end, my heart was racing, and I wasn’t even sure why. Maybe that’s what good punk does—it leaves you confused but alive. The production credits say Producer - A.Y.S., Colin P. Jerwood were behind the scenes, and whoever they are, they deserve credit for keeping things raw without losing clarity. Too many albums these days clean up the edges so much you forget what made the music exciting in the first place. Not here. Every imperfection feels intentional, like a middle finger to anyone expecting something polished. But here’s the thing about Someplace Special: it’s not just an album—it’s a mood. Listening to it feels like flipping through someone’s diary, except their handwriting is smudged and half the pages are torn out. It’s messy, yeah, but also kind of beautiful in its own messed-up way. So, final thoughts? This record won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Hell, some people might hate it. But if you’ve ever felt lost or angry or just plain overwhelmed, give it a shot. Oh, and fun fact—I still can’t figure out why there are so many versions of “Someplace Special.” Is it supposed to mean something deep, or did they just lose count? Either way, it adds to the charm. Or maybe I’m reading too much into it. Who knows?

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Someplace Special* by Admit You're Shit is a wild ride of punk and hardcore energy, but what makes it stand out is how chaotic and repetitive it feels—on purpose. Released in 2004 in the UK, the album has over 30 tracks, many of them variations or reprises of the same song, "Someplace Special." It's like they took one idea and just ran with it, smashing it into pieces and gluing it back together in different ways. Produced by the band themselves (A.Y.S.) and Colin P. Jerwood, this Mortarhate Records release feels less like a traditional album and more like an experiment in controlled chaos. Tracks like "You're Just a Jerk (Reprise)" even show up multiple times, almost mocking the listener. Love it or hate it, you can’t deny it’s unforgettable.

I'm not sure how accurate the track titles are. Probably just lifted off Discogs. There are only eleven tracks on this record (I'm playing it now) but we have twelve titles here. The CD issue just lists them as Someplace Special Parts one to eleven.

I be the FIRST to admit that I am shit.
Always amuses me that folks will listen to this in spite of the singers politics but won't listen to Skrewdrivers first album.......which had nothing to do with Ian Stuart's later views
