Album Review: When The Musikk Starts To Play by Musikk (2005) If you’re into House music with a Danish twist, When The Musikk Starts To Play is one of those albums that sneaks up on you. Released in 2005 under labels disco:wax and WEA, this electronic gem has a vibe that’s both nostalgic and timeless. It’s the kind of record you’d throw on at a summer BBQ or during a late-night drive when you need something smooth but still got energy. Let’s talk tracks for a sec. First up, “Everybody Salsa.” This one sticks with me because it’s impossible not to move to it. Like, seriously—try sitting still while this plays. The beat grabs hold of you right away, and before you know it, your shoulders are shimmying like they’ve got a mind of their own. Jesper Green and Mikkel Torsting clearly knew what they were doing here; the rhythm feels alive, almost like it’s teasing you into dancing harder. Plus, the salsa vibes? Unexpected but totally work. Props to them for pulling that off without making it cheesy. Another standout track is “Love Changes (Everything).” Man, this tune hits different. A&R folks don’t always get love, but they deserve credit for helping shape an album like this. Looking back, When The Musikk Starts To Play reminds me why House music will never go out of style. Sure, it came out nearly two decades ago, but it doesn’t feel dated. Maybe it’s the way it blends fun, emotion, and good old-fashioned beats. Or maybe it’s just proof that Denmark knows how to make killer electronic music. Either way, it’s a keeper. Oh, and random thought: if aliens ever visit Earth, we should play them this album. They’d probably boogie so hard they’d forget about invading. Just saying.
