Quanto Sei Bella: A 1966 Gem That Still Grooves Today Alright, let’s talk about Quanto Sei Bella by The San Remo Golden Strings. Released in 1966 on Ric-Tic Records (yep, the same label that gave us some early Motown vibes), this album is like a time capsule of Latin-infused pop, soul, and even a dash of funk. It’s not perfect—heck, it doesn’t try to be—but there’s something charmingly scrappy about its mix of styles. And honestly? You can tell these guys were having fun while making it. First up, the track “International Love Theme.” Oh man, this one sticks with you. Imagine sitting in a smoky lounge somewhere between Miami and Rome, sipping an espresso martini before they even invented espresso martinis. The arrangement feels lush but never overdone, thanks to Bert Keyes and Mike Terry doing their thing behind the scenes. There’s no singing here—it’s all instrumental—but who needs lyrics when you’ve got those brassy hits and smooth strings pulling at your heartstrings? If I close my eyes, I swear I’m cruising down Ocean Drive in a convertible Cadillac. Not bad for a song from the '60s, huh? Then there’s the title track, “Quanto Sei Bella,” which translates roughly to “How Beautiful You Are” if my high school Italian serves me right. This tune has a vibe so laid-back it practically melts into your speakers. Written by J. Bratton (whoever you are, sir or madam, thank you), it’s got this sultry groove that just oozes confidence without trying too hard. The horns punch in at exactly the right moments, and the rhythm section keeps things tight enough to make you nod along involuntarily. Honestly, it’s the kind of track that could soundtrack both a romantic dinner AND a spy movie chase scene. Versatility! Producer Ed Wingate clearly knew what he was doing, letting the band flex their chops without drowning in unnecessary frills. Sure, the production might sound a little dated now—this is 1966 we’re talking about—but that’s part of its charm. Like finding an old vinyl record at a thrift store and realizing it’s gold. So why does this album stick with me? Maybe because it’s unapologetically itself. No pretense, no trying to reinvent the wheel—just good music made by people who loved what they did. Listening to Quanto Sei Bella feels like stumbling across a hidden bar where everyone knows each other, and somehow, you feel welcome too. And hey, here’s a random thought to leave you with: isn’t it wild how music can transport us to places we’ve never been? One minute I’m typing away in my pajamas, and the next I’m imagining myself as some suave European jetsetter. All thanks to The San Remo Golden Strings. Who woulda thunk?

Lovely melody, Joanne Bratton wrote some of the more melodic tunes for Ed Wingates Golden World set up IMO, and as has been said for all the higher priced ric-tic stuff, this is a hard one, and I only seen demo's of it too!... Nice one T, great post
