Obsolete Music by Blinders On: A Forgotten Gem Worth Dusting Off Alright, let’s talk about Obsolete Music, the 2007 album from Swedish rockers Blinders On. It’s one of those albums that kinda sneaks up on you—like when you think you’re just scrolling through Spotify but then BAM, something grabs your ear and won’t let go. This is post-rock meets indie rock with a dash of raw energy, all wrapped up in a package that feels both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. Released under Background Noise (fitting name, right?), this thing has some serious depth to it. First off, can we appreciate the lineup? Jonas Appelqvist killing it on vocals, Marcus Ericsson shredding on electric AND acoustic guitar while also pulling out the E-bow for extra vibes, and Martin Kullberg holding down the basslines like a champ. Oh, and props to Anders Oscarsson for keeping the drumbeat tight and adding layers of percussion. Plus, Julia Gath’s backing vocals add this subtle texture that really ties everything together. These guys clearly knew what they were doing. Now, onto the tracks. The album kicks off with “You Had Me At Hello,” which is exactly the kind of song that makes you wanna roll down your car windows and scream along—even if you're just parked in your driveway. There’s something about the way the guitars build up before exploding into this chaotic yet controlled outro. Honestly, it’s hard not to hit replay after that one ends. Another standout track is “Leading A Disgusting Life.” Yeah, yeah, I know—it sounds super grim based on the title alone, but trust me, it’s more introspective than angry. The lyrics feel brutally honest, like someone spilling their guts over a beer-stained table. And the pacing? Flawless. It starts slow, almost hesitant, then gradually builds into this wall of sound that punches you right in the feels. By the end, you’re left wondering how they managed to fit so much emotion into four minutes. The rest of the album follows suit, blending heavy moments with quieter ones, always keeping you guessing. Tracks like “We Weren’t Always All About Trust” and “Lots And Lots Of Forget-Me-Nots” showcase the band’s ability to balance melody with grit. It’s messy in all the best ways, like flipping through an old photo album where every picture tells its own little story. Here’s the kicker though: despite being released back in 2007, Obsolete Music doesn’t feel dated. Maybe it’s because the themes are still relevant—doubt, frustration, longing—or maybe it’s just good ol’ fashioned solid songwriting. Either way, it holds up better than most stuff from that era. So, would I recommend giving this album a spin? Absolutely. It might not change your life or anything, but it’ll definitely make your day a little less boring. Plus, who doesn’t love discovering underrated bands from Sweden? Feels like finding money in an old jacket pocket—unexpected and kinda awesome. Oh, and here’s a random thought: if this album were a person, it’d probably be the type to wear mismatched socks and quote obscure movies at parties. Just saying.

About Blinders On

It took lots and lots of time and moving around before the Blinders On could form. After living practically on top of each other and being active in rockcombos in different cities in Blekinge (the south of Sweden, that is) since, like, always the band formed in Malmö in 2004. Influenced by indie rock icons such as Ian MacKaye, Niklas Quintana, Walter Schreifels, Stephen Malkmus, Brez and the bands related to these Blinders On (named after one of the songs that was to be written, that song is nowadays called Blinders Are On) started to write songs with solely one purpose. To uphold the tradition of the great indier ocksce ne in Sweden, something thats been on the lowdown these past years, with exceptions of a few bands of course. When remini scing, its not really hard to understand why Blinders On sound like they do. With members coming from various emo-, pop-, hardcore- and indiebands the mix is delicate! Sure, theres an uncomp romisi ng touch to the bands music with walls of guitars and raging drums but it also contains hooks and melodies that in some way have come to be the mark of the band. Members: J. Appelqvist vox, guitar M. Grander guitars M. Kullberg bass, backing vox A. Oscarsson drums

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a cool fact: The album *Obsolete Music* by Blinders On is packed with layers of sound, thanks to Marcus Ericsson. He didn’t just stick to electric and acoustic guitars—he also used an E-Bow, a tool that creates eerie, sustained tones. It adds this haunting vibe to their post-rock and indie rock style. Fun twist? The album includes two versions of "Leading A Disgusting Life" and "We Weren't Always All About Trust," giving listeners a chance to hear the songs in different ways. Recorded in Sweden back in 2007, it’s like a time capsule of raw energy and experimentation.
