Album Review: Nobody's Home / Mean Streak by Deep Purple Alright, let’s talk about Nobody’s Home / Mean Streak by Deep Purple. Released in 1985 under Polydor in Spain, this album is a bit of a hidden gem for rock fans. It’s got that classic Deep Purple vibe—a mix of Blues Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hard Rock—but with a twist that feels both raw and polished at the same time. Produced by the band themselves alongside Roger Glover (you know, the bass wizard), it’s got that signature punch we all love from them. Now, when you dive into this record, two tracks really stand out: “Mean Streak” and “Nobody’s Home.” Let me tell ya why they stuck with me. First up, “Mean Streak.” Man, this one hits hard right off the bat. The opening riff grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. It’s heavy but not overdone—just enough grit to remind you why Deep Purple helped shape Hard Rock as we know it. What I remember most is how tight the groove is; Ritchie Blackmore’s guitar work dances perfectly with Ian Gillan’s vocals. There’s something almost hypnotic about it, like you can’t help but nod your head or tap your foot. By the time Jon Lord’s keys come in, you’re fully hooked. It’s one of those songs where you think, “Yeah, THIS is why I fell in love with rock music.” Then there’s “Nobody’s Home,” which takes things down a notch but still packs an emotional punch. This track leans more into their Blues Rock roots, and honestly? It feels personal. Gillan’s voice carries so much weight here—it’s kind of haunting, like he’s telling you a story only he knows. The lyrics are simple yet powerful, and the slower tempo gives space for some killer solos. You can hear the chemistry between the band members, especially Steve Morse on guitar. It’s the kind of song that sneaks up on you after a few listens and just stays lodged in your brain. What makes this album cool is that it doesn’t try too hard to reinvent the wheel. Instead, it refines what Deep Purple already does best: delivering solid, no-frills rock with heart. Sure, it might not be their most groundbreaking release, but sometimes that’s okay. Sometimes you just wanna crank up the volume and enjoy good tunes without overthinking it. Here’s the thing though—listening to this album made me realize something kinda funny. Back in ’85, while everyone else was obsessing over big hair bands and synth-pop, Deep Purple kept doing their own thing. They weren’t chasing trends—they were busy being Deep Purple. And honestly? That’s pretty badass. So if you’re looking for an album that reminds you why rock will never die, give Nobody’s Home / Mean Streak a spin. Just don’t blame me if you end up playing “Mean Streak” on repeat for hours.

Interesting fact about Album

Did you know that Deep Purple's album *Nobody's Home Mean Streak* was released in 1985 under the label Polydor in Spain? It blends Blues Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hard Rock. Knocking at Your Back Door / Under the Gun: Two classics starting off a crucial album in rock history. This song manages to be edgy but comfortable at the same time, at least musically. A perfect groove. Lyrically, it's just edgy - like Child in Time 14 years earlier. I like Culture Club, but this song IS way better than The War Song.
Thought Sabaton song Steel Commanders refer to the second battle of El Alameni in which Sherman tanks first saw combat
