Eef Barzelay - Tiny Desk Concert

Eef Barzelay’s Tiny Desk Concert: A Little Gem That Packs a Punch Let’s cut to the chase—Eef Barzelay’s Tiny Desk Concert from 2010 isn’t your typical rock album. It’s more like that cozy corner in a coffee shop where the music just sneaks up on you, grabs your soul, and doesn’t let go. Released under National Public Radio (yeah, NPR!), this indie folk-rock masterpiece feels intimate, raw, and unapologetically human. If you’re into stuff that’s stripped-down but still packs an emotional wallop, this one’s for you. Now, I gotta talk about “With Nothing Much To Show Of It” because it’s stuck in my brain like gum on a hot sidewalk. The song starts off all mellow, with Eef’s voice kinda floating over his guitar. But then, bam—it hits you with these lyrics that feel like they were pulled straight outta life’s messy diary. He sings about chasing dreams and coming up short, but somehow it doesn’t leave you feeling bummed. Instead, there’s this weird sense of hope, like even if you screw up, hey, at least you tried. And honestly? That’s something we can all use a reminder of now and then. Another track that stands out is “Denver.” Man, this one feels like a road trip in the best way possible. You know those moments when you’re driving alone, windows down, and everything just clicks? That’s what this song does. The melody’s simple, almost haunting, but it sticks to your ribs. Plus, the storytelling here is top-notch. Eef paints pictures so vivid you can practically smell the pine trees and hear the hum of tires on asphalt. By the end, you’re not just listening—you’re living it. The other tracks, like “Something Beautiful” and “We Are Flowers,” keep the vibe going strong. They’re quieter, sure, but they’ve got this understated charm that makes you wanna hit repeat. Like, who knew something so low-key could feel so big? Here’s the thing about Tiny Desk Concert: it’s not trying to be flashy or loud. It’s just Eef Barzelay doing what he does best—spinning stories and melodies that stick to your heart like glitter after a craft project. In a world full of overproduced noise, this little album feels refreshingly real. And you know what? Listening to it made me realize something kinda funny. Life’s a lot like this record—messy, unpredictable, and beautiful in its own awkward way. So maybe we should all take a page from Eef’s book and embrace the imperfections. Or, y’know, just crank up the volume and enjoy the ride.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: Eef Barzelay’s *Tiny Desk Concert* album, released in 2010, feels like a cozy little secret. It’s not your typical studio album but rather a live recording from NPR’s iconic Tiny Desk series. The stripped-down vibe lets tracks like "With Nothing Much To Show Of It" and "Denver" shine with raw emotion. Folk Rock and Indie Rock blend beautifully here, making it feel like you’re sitting right there in the room. Something beautiful, indeed.

So great to hear Eef Barzelay live @ Tiny Desk. On top, his first song in this set is my favorite song "with nothing to show for it". I love both the album band version and this solo acoustic vocal guitar version. I was hoping he would sing "Forever now and then" which is also one of my favorites which was played in the movie "The secret life of words directed by Isabel Coixet''. That's when I first heard Clem Snide band and Eef Barzelay.

Hate to be the combo breaker here, but this was really bad compared to his other stuff and it was more than boring.
