Album Review: Spanish Heat by Vitesse (1985) Released in 1985 under the EMI label, Spanish Heat by Vitesse is a Europop gem that captures the vibrant energy of mid-80s synth-driven music. Produced by Nick Tauber, this Dutch album blends catchy melodies with a polished yet slightly raw sound that somehow feels both nostalgic and fresh. While the record doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it delivers exactly what fans of the genre crave: infectious hooks and a sense of escapism. The opening track, "You Turn Me On (Discoversie)", is an absolute earworm. It’s one of those songs that grabs you from the first synth riff and refuses to let go. The chorus hits hard—simple but effective, the kind of melody you hum without even realizing it. What makes this track memorable isn’t just its catchiness; it’s how it balances playful lyrics with a sleek production style. There’s something about the way the vocals glide over the instrumentation that feels like cruising down a sunlit highway. You can almost picture neon lights reflecting off a car windshield. Then there’s the title track, "Spanish Heat". If the first song sets the tone, this one dives deeper into the Europop aesthetic. It’s sultry, rhythmic, and layered with enough texture to keep things interesting. The bassline has a groove that sticks with you long after the song ends, and the atmospheric synths evoke images of warm Mediterranean nights. Sure, it leans heavily on 80s tropes, but that’s part of its charm. It’s not trying to be groundbreaking—it’s trying to make you move, and it succeeds. What strikes me most about Spanish Heat is how unapologetically fun it is. At times, it feels like a time capsule, but in the best possible way. Listening to it today, I’m reminded of how music back then didn’t take itself too seriously. It was all about creating moments of joy, even if they were fleeting. Funny thing—I stumbled across this album while digging through my dad’s old vinyl collection. He barely remembered buying it, but as soon as the needle hit the grooves, he started nodding along like muscle memory had kicked in. That says something about the staying power of these tracks. They might not change your life, but they’ll definitely brighten your day. In the end, Spanish Heat is more than just another Europop relic. It’s a reminder that sometimes, simplicity done well is all you need. And honestly? If this album doesn’t make you wanna dance around your living room, you might wanna check your pulse.

Interesting fact about Album

Did you know? The 1985 Europop album *Spanish Heat* by Vitesse was produced by Nick Tauber, a name you might recognize from his work with bands like Toyah and Girlschool. It’s wild to think that this Dutch pop gem came out the same year as classics like *Back to the Future*.
