Human Nature by Hardline: A Heartfelt Rock Odyssey That Packs a Punch Let’s get real for a second—reviewing an album like Human Nature feels kinda personal. Released in 2016, this gem from Hardline doesn’t just sit neatly under one genre; it straddles hard rock, pop/rock, and AOR with the kind of swagger only veterans can pull off. And trust me, when you’ve got Italy, Germany, Japan, Russia all vibing to the same record, you know something special is going on here. First off, let’s talk about who made this magic happen. Alessandro Del Vecchio wasn’t just producing—he was everywhere. Writing songs, playing keyboards, mixing, mastering, even throwing down backing vocals. Dude must’ve been running on caffeine fumes because his fingerprints are literally all over this thing. Then there’s Johnny Gioeli on vocals, belting out lyrics like he’s lived every word. You feel him. Francesco Jovino lays down some serious drum grooves while Anna Portalupi keeps the basslines tight. Oh, and Josh Ramos? His guitar riffs hit harder than your ex’s breakup text. Now, onto the tracks. While the whole album slaps (yeah, I said it), two songs really stuck with me: “Where Will We Go from Here” and “Nobody’s Fool.” “Where Will We Go from Here” kicks things off with this anthemic vibe that grabs you by the soul. The opening chords are simple but heavy, like they’re daring you not to sing along. When Gioeli sings, “We’ve walked through fire, we’ve crossed the line,” it hits different. Like, damn, life throws curveballs, but maybe we’ll figure it out together? It’s hopeful yet raw, and honestly, that mix gets me every time. By the end, you’re either fist-pumping or quietly staring into space thinking about your choices. Both reactions are valid. Then there’s “Nobody’s Fool.” This track is pure attitude wrapped in killer hooks. It's the kind of song where you roll down your car windows, crank the volume, and yell the chorus at strangers. Gioeli sounds untouchable here, delivering lines like “I won’t be pushed around” with so much conviction, you almost believe you could take on the world too. Almost. The guitar solo near the end? Chef’s kiss. It’s short, sharp, and leaves you wanting more—kinda like good coffee or bad decisions. One thing that stands out is how polished yet human this album feels. Yeah, Del Vecchio worked his technical wizardry, but it never loses its heart. These aren’t just songs—they’re stories. Stories about struggle, resilience, love, and standing united. And yeah, sure, some themes might sound familiar if you’ve listened to other Frontiers Records releases, but Hardline brings their own flavor to the table. Here’s the kicker though—the orchestral version of “Take You Home” sneaks up on you. At first, I thought, “Do we really need this?” But then the strings come in, soft and haunting, and suddenly it’s like hearing the song for the first time again. It reminds you that sometimes, beauty lies in doing less, not more. So, what’s my final verdict? Human Nature isn’t perfect—it has moments where it leans a bit too safe—but it’s impossible not to respect the passion poured into it. Listening to it feels like catching up with an old friend who still knows how to make you laugh and cry in the same breath. And hey, here’s a random thought to leave you with: If aliens ever visit Earth and ask us to explain rock music, I’d hand them this album. Not because it’s groundbreaking, but because it captures the essence of what makes rock timeless—heart, grit, and a little bit of recklessness. Now go listen to it.
