Review by Wendy Sellers

Standing Here Crying All Of A Sudden: The Incredibles’ Forgotten Soul Gem Alright, let’s cut the crap. This album? It’s a punch in the gut, but one of those punches that wakes you up and makes you feel alive. Standing Here Crying All Of A Sudden by The Incredibles is not some polished-over soul record—it’s raw, it’s gritty, and man, does it hit hard. Released in 1969 on Tetragrammaton Records (yeah, that label with the weird name), this thing screams funk and soul like nobody’s business. First off, “Standing Here Crying.” Damn. If there was ever a track to slap you across the face with emotion, this is it. The vocals are dripping with pain—like, real pain. You know when someone sings so hard you can almost see their veins popping out? That’s what’s happening here. The bassline grooves deep enough to make your chest rattle, while the horns come in sharp and clean, slicing through the mix like a knife. I remember this track because it doesn’t just tell you about heartbreak; it drags you into its world and leaves you gasping for air. No frills, no gimmicks—just pure, unfiltered soul power. Then there’s “All Of A Sudden.” This one sneaks up on you like a thief in the night. One second you’re vibing, the next you’re drowning in layers of harmonies and drum fills that sound like they were recorded straight from heaven—or maybe hell, depending on how you’re feeling. What sticks with me? The way the rhythm section locks in tight, driving everything forward like a runaway train. And those backing vocals? They’re haunting as hell, echoing behind the lead singer like ghosts whispering secrets in your ear. It’s messy, imperfect, and absolutely unforgettable. Here’s the kicker though—why don’t more people talk about this album? Sure, 1969 was stacked with legends dropping bangers left and right, but The Incredibles deserve their spot at the table. Maybe it’s the label—they folded faster than a cheap lawn chair—or maybe it’s just bad luck. Either way, Standing Here Crying All Of A Sudden deserves better. So go dig this one out if you can find it. Let it rip through your speakers and remind yourself what real music sounds like. Oh, and hey—if you think modern soul has lost its edge, throw this on and watch your whole perspective flip upside down. Funny how something nearly fifty years old still feels fresher than half the junk getting pumped out today. Guess some things never change.

Interesting fact about Album

Did you know? The Incredibles released their soulful album *Standing Here Crying All Of A Sudden* in 1969 under Tetragrammaton Records. It’s wild to think this gem came out during such a transformative time for music in the US. The album features just two tracks—"Standing Here Crying" and "All Of A Sudden"—but each one packs a punch with raw emotion and smooth vibes. Funk and soul fans probably appreciate how it captures the essence of its era.
