Review by Richard Marchetti

Album Review: Cool About It by Mr. Fiddler (1990) Alright, let’s cut to the chase—this album slaps. Cool About It ain’t just another House record; it’s a vibe machine straight outta 1990s America that hits you like a late-night caffeine rush. Produced by Mr. Fiddler himself alongside Larry Furguson, this Elektra release is raw, unfiltered house energy with enough remixes to keep your ears busy for days. First off, “Cool About It (Big Organ Instrumental)” grabs you by the neck and doesn’t let go. That organ riff? Pure fire. It's got this swampy, almost hypnotic groove that makes you feel like you’re in some dim-lit basement club where everyone’s too cool to talk but can’t stop moving. You don’t listen to this track—you live it. The way the bassline locks in with those keys? Forget about it. This isn’t background music; it’s front-and-center chaos, and I mean that as high praise. If you’re not nodding your head within ten seconds, check your pulse. Then there’s “Cool About It (Back Door Mix).” Damn. This one flips the script entirely. It’s darker, grittier, and feels like sneaking through an alleyway at 3 AM while neon lights flicker overhead. The percussion here is sharp enough to cut glass, and the layers build so smoothly you barely notice until BAM—you’re knee-deep in sonic bliss. What sticks with me most is how stripped-back yet full it sounds. Every little tweak, every echo—it all matters. It’s moody as hell, but still funky enough to make you want to move. Now, sure, there are other versions—like the “Living Room Mix,” which is basically what happens when they try to tone things down for people who hate fun—but honestly? Stick to the wild stuff. The LP version and edit are solid, but they don’t hit quite as hard as the Big Organ or Back Door cuts. Here’s the kicker though: listening to this album now feels kinda surreal. Like, we’re talking pre-internet era vibes, back when labels like Elektra took chances on artists doing their own thing. These tracks weren’t made to fit playlists—they were crafted to own spaces. And maybe that’s why they’ve stuck around in my brain all these years later. Listening today reminds me how much electronic music has changed, but also how timeless good production can be. So yeah, if you haven’t heard Cool About It, fix that ASAP. Just don’t blame me when you find yourself losing hours to its beats. Oh, and random thought—how does anyone stay "cool" while jamming this? Feels impossible.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The album *Cool About It* by Mr. Fiddler is a hidden gem from the early '90s house scene. Released in 1990 on Elektra, it showcases Mr. Fiddler's talent as both a producer and musician. What’s wild is how the album gives you six different versions of the same track. Each mix, like the "Big Organ Instrumental" or the "Back Door Mix," brings its own vibe. It’s like he was saying, “Pick your mood, I’ve got you covered.” House music fans still dig this one for its creativity and groove.
