Battle Of The DJS Vol 2: A Wild Ride Through UK’s Underground Beats Alright, let’s get into it. Battle Of The DJS Vol 2 by Sy Meets Vibes isn’t just another electronic album—it’s a chaotic love letter to Happy Hardcore, Gabber, and Breakbeat fans who still crave that raw, unfiltered energy. Straight outta the UK, this gem comes with no frills but packs enough punch to make your speakers beg for mercy. Released under Not On Label (BATTLEOFTHEDJS), it’s clear these guys weren’t trying to play it safe—they were here to smash boundaries. First off, mad props to DJ Mix - Sy and Vibes for crafting something so wild yet oddly cohesive. It’s like they took all the best bits from late-night raves and shoved ‘em into one electrifying mixtape. Two tracks stuck in my head after giving this beast a spin—well, technically three if you count the mysterious Untitled, but we’ll get to that later. The first standout is track four (no spoilers here!). From the moment it kicks in, you’re hit with this relentless gabber kick drum that feels like someone strapped rockets to your shoes. Then BAM!—the melody swoops in like a sugar rush you didn’t know you needed. It’s messy in the best way possible, like those nights where everything goes sideways but somehow ends up perfect. You can tell Sy and Vibes had fun throwing this together; there’s no overthinking, just pure adrenaline-fueled vibes. Then there’s Untitled. Yeah, yeah, I know—it’s not even named. But honestly? That’s what makes it stick. There’s something haunting about how stripped-back it feels compared to the rest of the album. It starts off slow, almost teasing you, then builds into this breakbeat frenzy that leaves you breathless. If the other tracks are the party, Untitled is the blurry-eyed walk home at dawn when reality hits again. No lyrics, no flashy drops—just vibes on vibes. What really gets me though is how Battle Of The DJS Vol 2 doesn’t try too hard to impress. It’s rough around the edges, sure, but that’s exactly why it works. It reminds me of digging through crates at an old record store, finding some hidden treasure that nobody else knows about. This isn’t polished EDM for festival main stages—it’s gritty, underground gold meant for sweaty basements and abandoned warehouses. So yeah, if you’re looking for background music while sipping lattes, maybe skip this one. But if you want something that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go? Hit play. Just don’t blame me when your neighbors start complaining. Oh, and here’s the kicker—listening to this made me realize how much dance music has lost its edge lately. Maybe we need more albums like this to remind us why we fell in love with beats in the first place. Or maybe I’m just rambling now. Either way, crank it up loud.

Major UK happy/hardcore DJ. Known as the "Scratchmaster" for his scratching skills. Born in 1968, Sy started DJing professionally in 1989 aged 21 playing hip-hop, soul and house and he gained a residency at a nightclub called Venus in Nottingham in 1990 whilst still at university. Following this success he was booked at events all over the Midlands, such as Nemesis in Leicester, Amnesia in Coventry, Time in Birmingham and the legendary Eclipse. Having gained a name as a DJ with a style of mixing that was unique to the newly-born rave scene, other promoters such as Dreamscape, Helter Skelter, Obsession, Fantasia and Perception included Sy on their line-ups. As the music evolved, Sy naturally progressed from hardcore to happy hardcore. Club work all over the country and abroad helped to establish his reputation as the Scratchmaster. Sy also co-owns an impressive studio in Aldershot, Hampshire, and it is from here that , one of the hardcore scene's most prolific labels, originated in 1994. His recording career has produced an extensive back-catalogue of tunes - particularly as half of duo - and he remains one of the biggest names in the UK hardcore scene today with regular releases and DJ gigs across the country. He also played on the pirate station, Rave FM, in Nottingham and on the legal (restricted License Energy FM in Brighton.
