Review by Matt Stockmal

Bossa Nova Para Fazer Feliz A Quem Se Ama: A Timeless Celebration of Love and Rhythm Released in 2003, Bossa Nova Para Fazer Feliz A Quem Se Ama is one of those albums that feels like a warm hug for your ears. Featuring a mix of Latin, Folk, and World music styles—think Bossa Nova, MPB, and Samba—it’s an international affair with roots planted firmly in Brazil but branches stretching to Portugal, Colombia, the UK, Mexico, and Venezuela. With labels like Columbia and CBS behind it, this compilation brings together some of the biggest names in Brazilian music history: Roberto Menescal as producer, Luiz Avellar on arrangements, and legends like João Bosco and Carlos Lyra lending their talents. The album doesn’t just stick to Portuguese; it dips into Spanish and English too, making it accessible to listeners across borders. Tracks like "Manhã de Carnaval" and "Garota de Ipanema" are instant standouts—not because they’re new or groundbreaking (they’re classics), but because they feel so alive here. It’s like hearing old friends tell stories you’ve heard before but somehow sound fresher each time. Let me zoom in on two tracks that stuck with me. First up, “Nós E O Mar.” The acoustic guitar work by José Edwin Murray Júnior (Zezinho) is hypnotic—it pulls you in like waves lapping at your feet. Then there’s Valdir Siqueira Da Silva (Barney) laying down subtle percussion that gives the track its heartbeat. There’s something about how simple yet layered everything feels. You can almost picture yourself sitting on Copacabana Beach at sunset, sipping coconut water while life slows down around you. Yeah, it’s that kind of vibe. Then there’s “Insensatez,” which hits different every time I listen. Maybe it’s the way Heber Calura’s contrabass anchors the melody, or maybe it’s the haunting beauty of the lyrics themselves. Either way, it’s one of those songs where you stop whatever you’re doing mid-song just to soak it all in. And Sérgio Murilo’s mixing? Flawless. Everything sits perfectly in the mix without feeling overproduced—a rare feat these days. What really makes this album special isn’t just the music itself—it’s the care behind it. From Burle Marx’s painting gracing the cover to Cristina Portella and Carlos Nunes’ graphic design, even the visuals scream attention to detail. This isn’t just a collection of songs; it’s a full sensory experience. Here’s the kicker though: listening to this album made me realize how universal love and longing really are. Whether it’s “Chega De Saudade” or “La Felicidad,” the emotions cut through language barriers like butter. Funny enough, halfway through my second listen, I caught myself humming along to tunes I didn’t even know the words to. That’s the magic of Bossa Nova—it sneaks up on you when you least expect it. So yeah, if you’re looking for something smooth, soulful, and slightly nostalgic, give Bossa Nova Para Fazer Feliz A Quem Se Ama a spin. Just don’t blame me if you find yourself daydreaming about Rio—or accidentally booking a flight there.

Interesting fact about Album

Did you know that the album *Bossa Nova Para Fazer Feliz A Quem Se Ama* is like a musical passport? It’s true! Released in 2003, this collection of Bossa Nova, MPB, and Samba tracks was a global effort, featuring artists and producers from Brazil, Portugal, Colombia, the UK, Mexico, and Venezuela. The legendary Roberto Menescal, a pioneer of Bossa Nova, produced it. Even more fascinating? The album includes songs in multiple languages—Portuguese, Spanish, and English—showcasing how music can transcend borders. Tracks like *"Garota de Ipanema"* and *"Manhã de Carnaval"* are timeless classics, but here they sit alongside reinterpretations and translations, making it a true celebration of Latin culture and its global influence.

I used to own this cassette... well I stole it from a friend!!! FREE!!! then my brother one day said, let me have it for some time, 1 year, then 2...then many more years, he would not give it back to me, he had it in his car playing side A & B and A & B non stop! one day it was gone. I guess someone heard it, a valet parking guy or who knows. it disappeared. until TODAY that I am able to hear it again. thanks for uploading it to YOUTUBE.

Em 32"51' começa um dos mais lindos dos pout-pourrits da história da MPB. Vagamente e Manhã de Carnaval na voz do Ney. Tenho esse disco. Produzido e autografado por Roberto Menescal. Fantástico mesmo!
