Chill Out Free by Various: A Trip Down Memory Lane If you’re into laid-back beats that feel like a warm hug for your brain, Chill Out Free is the kind of album you’ll wanna keep on repeat. Released in 1996 in the UK under Avex UK, this gem is all about blending house, ambient techno, and just enough regular techno to keep things interesting. The mix was done by Phil Mison, who clearly knew what he was doing because this thing flows smoother than melted butter. Alright, let’s talk tracks. There are some real standouts here, but two stuck with me like gum on a shoe. First up, "Invisible Landscapes." Oh man, this one hits different. It's got these lush synths that make it feel like you're floating through clouds while someone whispers secrets only you can hear. I don’t know how they pulled it off, but every time I listen, it feels like stepping into another world—one where deadlines don’t exist and coffee never gets cold. You know? Then there’s "Montego Bay (Sea Turtle Remix)." This track slaps. Like, hard. Imagine sitting on a beach at sunset, sipping something fruity with an umbrella sticking out of it, except you’re also slightly haunted by the ghost of summer romances past. That bassline? Pure magic. And those little twinkly bits layered over the top? Chef’s kiss. It’s not trying too hard—it just is, y’know? One thing I love about this album is how it doesn’t scream for attention. Instead, it lets you wander through its soundscapes without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Tracks like "Fat Roaches" and "Small Adventures" add quirky little surprises along the way, keeping things fresh without derailing the vibe. Even the remixes, like Phil Mison’s take on "The Boat Race," bring their own flavor without overshadowing the originals. Honestly, listening to Chill Out Free feels like finding an old mixtape from a friend who really gets you. It’s nostalgic yet timeless, simple yet deep. Weirdly enough, it made me think about how life is kinda like this album—full of highs and lows, moments of clarity and chaos, but always moving forward. Or maybe I’m just overthinking it after hearing "Moonlight" one too many times. Either way, if you haven’t given this a spin yet, do yourself a favor and press play. Your ears will thank you later. Oh, and fun fact: turns out “quarter 2” isn’t just office jargon—it’s also the name of a hidden banger near the end of the record. Who knew?

I experienced a Detroit style DJ on psychedelics in the mid 90's & it changed me forever.
To this day after being absent from Raves after 18 yrs,I still long to hear this music live under the influence.
