Sunduq by Yunis & Ethan Glass: A Bass-Heavy Journey Worth Remembering Released in 2016 under the label yunis labs, Sunduq is one of those albums that sneaks up on you. It’s not trying too hard to impress, but it does anyway. This collaboration between Yunis and Ethan Glass blends electronic beats with hip-hop vibes, all wrapped up in bass music goodness. If you’re into head-nodding rhythms and soundscapes that feel like they’re pulling you into another dimension, this US-born project might just hit the spot. The title track, “Sunduq,” kicks things off strong. It’s got this hypnotic groove that feels like a slow burn at first, but once the bassline drops, it grabs hold and doesn’t let go. The way the layers build is kinda genius—it starts minimal, then throws in these glitchy textures and warped percussion that make your ears perk up. You can tell Yunis and Glass weren’t afraid to experiment here. There’s no big flashy drop or over-the-top moment; instead, it’s subtle and moody, which makes it stick in your head long after the song ends. Another standout is “Track Name I Can’t Remember” (okay, fine, I’ll double-check later). What I love about this one is how it flips between smoky, almost jazzy undertones and raw, gritty beats. It’s like sitting in a dimly lit basement club where everyone’s vibing without saying much. The production feels lived-in, like these guys spent hours tweaking every little detail until it sounded just right. And honestly? That effort pays off big time. What sets Sunduq apart from other bass-heavy albums isn’t just its technical chops—it’s the vibe. Listening to it feels personal, as if Yunis and Glass are letting you in on something secret. Maybe it’s the lo-fi aesthetic mixed with sharp, clean production, or maybe it’s just the way the tracks flow together seamlessly. Whatever it is, it works. Looking back, what surprises me most about Sunduq is how unassuming it seems at first glance. You wouldn’t think an album with such a low-key cover art would pack so much punch. But here we are, still talking about it years later. Funny enough, I found myself humming “Sunduq” while folding laundry the other day. Not sure if that says more about the album or my laundry skills, but hey—that’s gotta count for something, right?
