  • About Me: I am an educator, learning specialist, writer, musician from Chicago. I now own and run a bed and breakfast in Louisville, Kentucky. I'm Interested in writing/reading, blogging, the arts, languages, social media, women's issues, and learning new "stuff". Bio: I opened a bed and breakfast in Louisville Kentucky 18 years ago, after retiring from teaching in Chicago. I learned how to run it on the job and have had a profitable business for years. Prior to coming to Louisville, I was an educator in Chicago. I earned degrees in music, education, and cognitive and behavior disorders. I am certified in English, ESL, and have consulted as a learning specialist. After teaching in the public high schools for over twenty years, I took a sabbatical to work on a PhD at the University of Illinois.. At that time I focused on learning and language, settling on a sociolinguistic, ethnographic study for my final dissertation. During that time, I taught classes in curriculum and instruction and secondary teaching methods, while supervising student teachers. I began writing seriously in undergraduate school and have continued to do so throughout my life. I have written articles for magazines and for print newspapers and on the internet. I have edited and consulted on many writing projects, theses and dissertations during and after my teaching career. I completed a two-year writing and editing project for the Bed and Breakfast Association of Kentucky, which resulted in a published hard-bound coffee-table cookbook and a 2008 President's Award for work on the project. I started blogging four years ago and set up a blog documenting daily life in my bed and breakfast and another as a forum for Innkeepers who are interested in learning about social media, as it relates to the hospitality business, and who want to improve their technology and their ability to market their businesses online. Due to the present economy, many businesses have fallen prey to the small business/no business syndrome. I, like other bed and breakfast and small Inn owners, need to continually generate new ideas for increasing and sustaining business. I created the business blog as a forum to open communication within the inn keeping community. Since then, I created two more blogs, a book blog: www.businessandcreativewomensfourum.blogspot.com, and a writer's blog: www. amemorabletimeofmylife.blogspot.com. I also write for and maintain a blog for the Louisville Bed and Breakfast Association: http://louisvillebedandbreakfast.org/ I recently finished my first memoir (Operatic Divas and Naked Irishmen) and have started a second one (working title: Roxie, Alfred, and Me).
