Album Review: The Wall by Alok & Sevenn – A Bassline Odyssey When you think of The Wall, the first thing that probably comes to mind is Pink Floyd’s iconic rock opera. But in 2019, Brazilian electronic maestros Alok and Sevenn teamed up to drop their own version of The Wall, flipping the script with a bass-heavy dancefloor banger. Released under CONTROVERSIA, this two-track EP channels the raw energy of bassline music while paying homage to Roger Waters’ legendary songwriting. It’s not every day you see such an unexpected fusion, but hey, it works. Let’s get into the tracks. First up is The Wall (Extended Mix)—a proper stomper that grabs your attention right from the drop. The production here feels like a high-octane ride, blending driving beats with warped synths that scream festival vibes. What makes this track unforgettable? The way it builds tension. One minute you’re vibing to its hypnotic rhythm, and the next, it slams you with a bassline so thick you can practically feel it in your chest. Credit goes to Alok, Sevenn, and Wolve for crafting something that feels both nostalgic and fresh. If you’ve ever lost yourself on a dark dancefloor, this one will take you right back. Then there’s the original mix, simply titled The Wall. While it shares DNA with the extended version, this cut leans more stripped-back, letting the melody breathe. It’s less chaotic, which might appeal to listeners who prefer subtlety over sensory overload. Still, it packs enough punch to keep things interesting. You can hear Waters’ influence in the haunting undertones, though reimagined through an electronic lens. It’s almost eerie how they managed to translate those classic themes into something entirely modern. Props also go to the mastering team at One Mix Mastering and mixer Wolve, who polished these tracks until they gleamed. Every beat hits just right, every layer sits perfectly in the mix. It’s clear no corners were cut here. What sticks out about The Wall isn’t just its technical brilliance—it’s the sheer audacity of remixing such a monumental piece of music history. Sure, some purists might raise an eyebrow, but that’s kinda the point. This EP reminds us that even sacred cows can be turned into club anthems if done respectfully. Final thought? Listening to this record feels like catching a glimpse of the Berlin Wall mid-demolition—destructive yet oddly beautiful. And honestly, isn’t that what great music should do? Shake things up a little.
