Album Review: Corali Per Organo Passacaglia In Do Minore by Walter Kraft (1979) If you're into classical music, especially the Baroque kind, this album is like finding an old treasure chest buried under a pile of dusty records. Corali Per Organo Passacaglia In Do Minore isn’t just another Johann Sebastian Bach tribute—it’s Walter Kraft sitting at the organ, breathing life into some of Bach's most iconic pieces. Released in Italy back in '79 on Fabbri Editori, it feels like stepping into a cathedral where time slows down and every note hangs heavy with meaning. Let me cut to the chase: two tracks stuck with me long after the needle lifted off the vinyl. First up, BWV 645 "Wachet Auf, Ruft Uns Die Stimme"—you know, that one chorale prelude that sounds like angels waking you up gently but firmly. Kraft plays it with such clarity, each chord rings out like church bells echoing across cobblestone streets. It’s not flashy or overdone; instead, it’s got this understated grace that makes you wanna sit still for once and really listen. I swear, halfway through, I forgot what year it was. The way he handles the melody? Pure magic. Then there’s the mighty Passacaglia In Do Minore BWV 582, which closes the album like a thunderstorm rolling in. This piece doesn’t mess around—it grabs you by the collar and says, “Hey, pay attention.” Kraft nails the build-up, layer upon layer of intricate variations swirling together until your brain can barely keep up. By the end, my heart was racing like I’d just run up a flight of stairs. Honestly, if Bach were alive today, I think he’d nod approvingly while sipping espresso somewhere in Milan. The liner notes are worth mentioning too—not something I usually geek out about, but Eduardo Rescigno and Renato Garavaglia bring their A-game here. They don’t just throw facts at you; they weave stories that make you feel connected to these centuries-old compositions. And hey, props to them for making me care about stuffy historical details without falling asleep. What’s wild is how fresh this record feels despite being older than many people reading this review. Maybe it’s because Bach’s music transcends trends, or maybe it’s Walter Kraft’s masterful touch on the organ. Either way, listening to this album feels like eavesdropping on history itself—a private conversation between genius composers and performers who refuse to be forgotten. Here’s the kicker though: as much as I love this album, part of me wishes they’d included a quirky bonus track, like Kraft improvising over Bach themes while humming along awkwardly. Imagine that! But hey, perfection doesn’t need extras, right? So grab yourself a copy if you can find it—it’s like owning a little slice of eternity wrapped in Italian craftsmanship. Final thought? Listening to this album made me realize that sometimes, the best things come from slowing down and letting the past speak. Or maybe I’m just hungry now. Who knows?

About Bach Organista Walter Kraft

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .
