Black Sabbath - Its Alright

Review by Ben Siornicki

Black Sabbath’s It’s Alright: A Hefty Slice of 1976 Rock Magic That Still Kicks Let’s get real for a second—when you hear “Black Sabbath,” your brain probably jumps straight to doom-laden riffs and Ozzy wailing about wizards or warlocks. But hold up, because It’s Alright flips the script in ways that make it feel like sneaking into an alternate universe where Sabbath decided to lighten things just a smidge. Released in ’76 across countries like the US, Netherlands, Australia (and even the Philippines!), this album is part hard rock, part heavy metal, and all attitude. The tracklist reads like a playlist made by someone who can’t decide if they wanna party or brood—but honestly? That’s what makes it so damn fun. Two tracks stand out like neon signs on a dark street: “Back Street Kids” and “It’s Alright.” “Back Street Kids” hits you with this gritty, almost punky energy that feels raw as hell. Tony Iommi’s guitar work here doesn’t mess around—it grabs you by the collar and says, “Listen up!” The lyrics are simple but pack a punch, kinda like those old-school tales of scrappy kids running wild. Every time I hear it, I imagine some grainy black-and-white footage of teenagers flipping off authority figures while skateboarding through abandoned factories. It’s not polished, and that’s exactly why it sticks. Then there’s “It’s Alright,” which comes at ya in both stereo and mono versions—because why not? This one’s got more groove than a Saturday night disco, except instead of glitter balls, you’ve got Geezer Butler laying down basslines so smooth they could butter toast. And let’s talk about the vocals—Ozzy sounds oddly chill here, like he traded his usual bat-biting antics for a laid-back vibe. There’s something comforting yet rebellious about how the chorus repeats “It’s alright” over and over again, like a mantra for anyone trying to convince themselves everything will be okay—even when it clearly isn’t. Now, credit where it’s due: Black Sabbath produced this bad boy themselves, and you can tell. They weren’t phoning it in—they knew exactly what they were doing. With credits split between Wade, Butler, Osbourne, and Iommi, every song feels deliberate, even if it occasionally veers into quirky territory (hello, “Esta Bien”). Labels like Vertigo and Warner Bros. slapped their stamps on it worldwide, proving that sometimes strange experiments pay off big time. So yeah, It’s Alright might not be Sabbath’s most famous record, but it’s proof that even legends can surprise us. Listening to it now feels like finding an old mixtape stuffed in the backseat of your first car—you forgot how much you loved it until the needle drops. Honestly? If aliens ever invade Earth and ask for one example of human creativity, I’d hand them this album… then duck behind a couch ‘cause, well, aliens scare me. And hey, maybe that’s the point. Even amidst chaos, life really is alright—if you’ve got the right soundtrack playing.

Interesting fact about Album

Did you know that Black Sabbath's 1976 album *It's Alright* had a bit of a mix-up with its title track? The song "It's Alright" appears multiple times on the album in different versions—both stereo and mono. It’s like they really wanted to make sure you heard it exactly how they envisioned. Oh, and fun fact: depending on where you were in the world, the album had different names! In some countries, it was called *It's Alright*, while in others, it went by *Rock 'N' Roll Doctor*. Same music, different vibes.
