Album Review: President Jimmy Carter’s Inaugural Address (1977) Alright, let’s talk about something a little different today—this isn’t your typical music album. Nope, President Jimmy Carter’s Inaugural Address is more of a historical artifact than a musical masterpiece. Released in 1977 by Sonopresse in the Netherlands and Belgium, this record falls under the “Non-Music” genre with a style labeled simply as “Speech.” It’s basically just Jimmy Carter delivering his big speech when he became president, pressed onto vinyl for posterity. Weird? Kinda. Fascinating? Absolutely. Now, I know what you’re thinking—why would anyone put a speech on a record? Well, back in the day, people actually did this sort of thing to preserve important moments or speeches. And honestly, listening to it feels like stepping into a time machine. You get to hear Carter’s voice, his tone, his hopes for America—all without any flashy production or backing band. Just raw, unfiltered history. Let me break down two tracks that stuck with me. First up, there’s President Jimmy Carter’s Inaugural Address. This is essentially the main event, where Carter lays out his vision for the country. His delivery is calm but firm, almost like he’s talking directly to you across decades. What struck me most was how optimistic he sounds—he talks about unity, faith in democracy, and tackling challenges together. Even if you don’t agree with everything he says, you can’t deny the sincerity behind it. Listening to this track made me realize how much political speeches have changed over the years. Nowadays, they feel so polished and rehearsed, but this one has a kind of humble charm to it. Then there’s President Jimmy Carter’s Inaugural Address (Vervolg), which translates to “continuation” in Dutch. This part picks up right where the first track leaves off, diving deeper into Carter’s plans and ideals. Honestly, hearing him go on about human rights and global cooperation felt surprisingly relevant, even today. Like, wow, some of these issues haven’t gone away at all! The way he emphasizes morality in leadership really stood out to me—it’s not something we hear enough from politicians these days. So yeah, this album won’t exactly get your heart racing or make you want to dance around your living room. But it’s oddly compelling in its own nerdy way. If you’re into history, politics, or just curious about how leaders communicated before Twitter threads and soundbites, this is worth checking out. Here’s the kicker though: listening to this record made me wonder… do modern presidents even bother writing heartfelt speeches anymore? Or are we too busy scrolling memes to care? Either way, hats off to Jimmy Carter for putting his thoughts out there—and thanks to Sonopresse for pressing them onto vinyl. Who knew an inaugural address could feel so personal?

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: Jimmy Carter’s inauguration speech was released as a music album in 1977. Yep, you read that right. It’s not music but actually a speech, labeled under "Non-Music" and styled as "Speech." The album came out in the Netherlands and Belgium on the Sonopresse label. It even has two tracks, which are basically just parts of his address. How wild is that? Speeches as albums—definitely a different vibe.
