Alambic - Alambic

Review by Ferdinando de Blasio di Palizzi

Alambic – Alambic (Numero Deux) Prog rock fans, buckle the hell up. This self-titled beast from Alambic is a wild ride through time signatures that’ll make your head spin faster than a drummer’s double kick. Released under Numero Deux, this album doesn’t mess around—it grabs you by the throat and demands attention. First off, let’s talk about “Chaos Theory,” track two. Holy crap, this thing hits like a freight train on steroids. The opening riff slams into you so hard it feels personal. Then there’s the keyboard solo—wait, no, it’s not just a solo; it’s an assault. It spirals out of control in the best possible way, leaving you wondering if these guys have more fingers than normal humans. You don’t forget something like that easily because it sticks to your brain like gum on a hot sidewalk. Then we’ve got “Echo Chamber,” which flips between serene and absolutely chaotic every few seconds. Just when you think you’re safe floating in its dreamy vibe, BAM—it drops into some gnarly basslines and drum fills that sound like they were recorded inside a collapsing building. And yeah, maybe the lyrics are kinda cryptic, but who cares? It’s prog rock, dude. If you want straightforward storytelling, go listen to pop radio or whatever. What makes Alambic stand out isn’t just their technical wizardry—it’s how unapologetically raw they feel. They don’t polish everything till it sparkles; instead, they leave the rough edges where they belong. Like sandpaper for your ears. There’s a certain charm to that grit, even if it pisses off purists who expect perfection. At the end of the day, Alambic reminds me why I fell in love with prog rock in the first place: it’s unpredictable as hell. But here’s the kicker—it also made me realize my cat hates complex rhythms. She bolted out of the room halfway through “Chaos Theory.” Guess she couldn’t handle the genius either.

About Alambic
