Buck - Sugar Britches

Sugar Britches by Buck: A Funky Little Gem That Sticks Alright, let’s talk about Sugar Britches by Buck. This album is like that one quirky friend who shows up uninvited but ends up being the life of the party. Released under Sonnibuck and hailing from the US, it’s got all the vibes of classic Funk/Soul—groovy, raw, and just a little bit cheeky (pun totally intended). With only two tracks, it might seem short, but trust me, this thing packs more punch than your morning coffee. First off, we’ve got “Sugar Britches (Vocal).” Man, oh man, this track hits different. It’s funky in that way where you can’t help but wiggle around like nobody’s watching. The vocals are smooth as butter on a hot biscuit, with lyrics that feel playful yet soulful. There’s something about how they stretch out certain words—it’s almost hypnotic. You find yourself humming along even when you’re trying to focus on adulting stuff, like paying bills or pretending to care during Zoom meetings. And those horns? They pop in at just the right moments, adding layers of sass and swagger. Honestly, if this song doesn’t make you want to grab someone for an impromptu dance sesh, check your pulse. Then there’s “Sugar Britches (Instrumental),” which flips the vibe completely. Without vocals, the groove takes center stage, letting each instrument shine like it’s auditioning for its own solo career. The bassline slaps so hard it could moonlight as a workout playlist. I mean, seriously, my dog started doing zoomies across the living room floor when I played this one. If that ain’t a sign of greatness, I don’t know what is. What sticks with me here is how stripped-down everything feels—you can really hear the personality of every note. It’s less polished, sure, but that’s what makes it so dang charming. Now, here’s the kicker: while most albums try to cram in 10+ tracks to prove their worth, Sugar Britches keeps it simple. Two songs, done well. No filler, no fluff. In a world obsessed with quantity over quality, Buck reminds us that sometimes less really is more. Plus, naming both tracks after the album itself? Bold move, but it works. Like wearing matching socks and shoes—it shouldn’t work, but somehow it does. So yeah, Sugar Britches isn’t gonna change your life or anything deep like that. But it’ll definitely give you a reason to smile, shake your hips, and maybe question why modern music doesn’t have more cowbell. Oh, and fun fact: listening to this album makes potato chips taste better. True story. Try it.

I've been looking for this song for years. This is my late cousin Edith Mae Jones! Do you by any chance have "You Lay So Easy on My Mind" which was stolen and rerecorded many times by great artists including Conway Twitty. Thanks so much for posting this song
