Album Review: Chrissy by Chrissy Ieece – A Latin Gem That Still Shines Let’s get one thing straight: 1996 was a wild year. The Macarena was everywhere, flip phones were cool (kinda), and somewhere in the US, Chrissy Ieece dropped her self-titled debut Chrissy. Released under RMM Records and Soho Latino, this Latin-infused album didn’t exactly set the world on fire—but it sure left a smudge or two on the dance floor. Now, before you roll your eyes at yet another ‘90s relic, hear me out. This isn’t some cookie-cutter salsa record. It’s got heart, sass, and just enough spice to make you go, “Hmm, maybe I should give this another spin.” And trust me, there are moments here that stick like gum on a hot sidewalk. Take “Te Amo (Radio)”, for instance. If ever there was a song designed to make your abuela tear up while simultaneously nodding her head, this is it. The vocals? Smooth as melted butter over a fresh arepa. The melody? Catchy without being obnoxious—like an earworm you actually want to keep around. There’s something about how Chrissy delivers those heartfelt lyrics that feels genuine, like she really means it. You know, instead of phoning it in like so many pop stars do these days. Plus, having the instrumental and acapella versions back-to-back is kinda genius. It lets you appreciate all the layers—or imagine yourself belting it out in the shower. No judgment. Then there’s “Take Your Love And Go (Spanish Radio)”. Oh boy, this track hits different. Maybe it’s the bilingual vibe, or maybe it’s because Chrissy sounds like she’s had enough of someone’s nonsense—but dang, does she sell it. The beat has this infectious groove that makes you wanna grab a partner and twirl across the room, even if your moves look more Elaine from Seinfeld than Jennifer Lopez. Fun fact: listening to this remix will instantly upgrade any bad day. Try it. I dare you. Sure, not every track on Chrissy is a banger. Some songs feel like filler, like they’re just along for the ride. But hey, no one said perfection was required to have fun. What Chrissy Ieece brings to the table is authenticity—a rare commodity in today’s Auto-Tuned wonderland. She doesn’t try too hard to impress; she just lets the music speak for itself. So what’s the verdict? Is Chrissy a lost masterpiece? Nah, probably not. But it’s a solid little time capsule of late-’90s Latin vibes. If you’re into throwback tunes with soul and charm, this might be worth dusting off. Just don’t blame me if “Te Amo” gets stuck in your head for weeks. Random thought: wouldn’t it be hilarious if Chrissy Ieece opened a taco truck now? Like, serving empanadas alongside playlists of her old hits? Food for thought.
