For Children Volume 2 by Géza Anda & Béla Bartók – A Little Gem That Feels Like Home Alright, let’s talk about For Children Volume 2. Released under Angel Records in the UK, this classical album is one of those quiet treasures you stumble upon when life gets too loud. It’s not flashy or trying to reinvent anything—it just exists, pure and simple, like a warm cup of tea on a rainy afternoon. The pianoforte takes center stage here, with tracks numbered Nos. 1 to 22 and Nos. 23 to 39, all played solo. No frills, no fuss—just Géza Anda channeling Béla Bartók’s genius through his fingers. Now, I gotta say, there are two tracks that stuck with me long after the record stopped spinning: Track 8 (from Nos. 1 to 22) and Track 34 (from Nos. 23 to 39). They’re both so different but equally haunting in their own way. Track 8 feels like staring out of a train window at twilight. There’s something bittersweet about it, like memories you can’t quite place but ache for anyway. Anda plays it with this delicate touch, as if he’s scared to wake up whoever might be sleeping nearby. You know those moments where everything feels perfect, even though nothing special is happening? That’s what this track does—it freezes time for a bit. And then there’s Track 34, which hits completely differently. If Track 8 is twilight, this one’s more like dawn breaking over an empty beach. It starts off slow, almost hesitant, like it’s tiptoeing around your heart. But then it builds—oh man, does it build. By the end, I swear I wasn’t ready for how much emotion could pour out of a single piano. It’s playful yet deeply serious, like Bartók knew exactly how to mix joy and melancholy into something that feels… human. Imperfectly beautiful. What makes this album stand out isn’t just the music itself—it’s the space between the notes. Like, you can practically hear the room breathe. It’s intimate, unpolished in the best possible way. And yeah, maybe it’s not gonna appeal to everyone. Some folks will probably find it “too simple” or whatever. But honestly? That’s what makes it magical. It doesn’t try too hard; it just is. Here’s the thing—I didn’t expect to feel so connected to an album titled For Children. I mean, come on, it sounds like something meant for bedtime stories or elementary school recitals. But listening to it reminded me of how kids see the world: uncomplicated, full of wonder, and kinda profound without meaning to be. Maybe we should all listen to music like children sometimes—without overthinking it, without needing it to “mean” something big. So, yeah. Do yourself a favor and give For Children Volume 2 a spin. Just don’t blame me if you start tearing up during Track 8. Oh, and hey, maybe grab some tissues before hitting play on Track 34 while you're at it. Trust me on this one. P.S. Who knew angelic music could sound so earthy? Go figure.

Born: 1881-03-25 (Nagyszentmiklós, Magyar Királyság). Died: September 26, 1945 (New York, New York, United States). Béla Viktor János Bartók was a Hungarian composer, pianist, ethnomusicologist and collector of Eastern European and Middle Eastern folk music (born 25/03/1881 in Nagyszentmiklós, today Sânnicolau Mare, Romania - died 25/09/1945 in New York, U.S.A). He is considered one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century; his vast production reveals a daring and restless harmonic instinct that is affected by his passionate studies on Hungarian folk songs. Typical elements of Béla Bartók style (derived from Hungarian, Transylvanian and Romanian folklore) consists in the use of irregular rhythms and a clear preference for obsessive rhythms. His compositions have sonorities, sometimes abstract, but often harsh, rough and barbaric. Married to the pianist . His 2nd son, became a recording engineer.
