Album Review: Clowny – This Is What I Do
Alright, so let’s talk about Clowny’s 2014 album This Is What I Do. It’s one of those records that just smacks you in the face with energy, but in a good way. If you’re into Happy Hardcore or Hardcore vibes, this UK-born banger is worth your time. Released under ClownTrax (props to Clowny for repping his own label), it’s got that chaotic yet fun electronic edge that makes you wanna bounce off the walls.
The title track, “This Is What I Do,” is an absolute stormer. Like, it’s impossible not to move when this kicks in. The beat hits hard, but there’s also this playful vibe running through it—kinda like someone took a rave and threw a circus on top of it. You know how some tracks feel like they’re made FOR the dancefloor? Yeah, this is one of them. Every time I hear it, I picture neon lights and people losing their minds in the best possible way.
Another standout for me is… well, okay, honestly, I can’t remember all the track names because my brain doesn’t work like that, but there’s this other tune where the synths go absolutely bonkers. It’s got these wild arpeggios that spiral outta control, and then BAM—a drop that feels like being hit by a sugar rush and a lightning bolt at the same time. That’s the thing about Clowny—he knows how to layer sounds until they’re practically exploding outta your speakers.
What sticks with me most about this album isn’t even the music itself—it’s the sheer vibe. Listening to it feels like stepping into Clowny’s world, which seems equal parts chaotic and joyful. And yeah, sure, maybe some parts are a bit messy, but isn’t that what makes it kinda human?
Anyway, here’s the random thought I’ll leave you with: if Happy Hardcore was a person, I reckon it’d be the kind of dude who shows up late to a party wearing mismatched socks but somehow still ends up being the life of the whole thing. This album? Same energy. Check it out if you need something loud, wild, and unapologetically fun.
Final verdict: 8/10. Not perfect, but damn near close enough to make you forget about whatever bad day you were having.
