Flip Flip Zu Wah Summer Night: The Computones’ Forgotten Gem Alright, let’s talk about Flip Flip Zu Wah Summer Night by The Computones. This 1978 rock album with a heavy dose of doo-wop swagger is like finding an old vinyl in your grandpa's attic—quirky, kinda charming, and way more fun than you expected. Released under the U.G.H.A. label (which sounds suspiciously like something my cat would name a record company), this US-born oddball has three tracks that feel like they were cooked up during a summer barbecue gone slightly off the rails. First up, “Flip.” Oh man, where do I even start? It’s got this bouncy rhythm that feels like someone handed Elvis a tambourine and told him to go nuts. The vocals are smooth but not too polished—like they recorded it after one too many milkshakes. There’s just enough swagger here to make you want to dance awkwardly in your kitchen while pretending you’re cool. What sticks with me most is how unapologetically retro it feels. Like, if time travel existed, this song would be the guy showing up at Woodstock wearing neon leg warmers from 1985. Weird flex, but I respect it. Then there’s “Summer Night,” which hits different because, well, it actually sounds like a summer night. You can almost smell the bug spray and hear crickets chirping in the background. It’s slow, dreamy, and honestly makes me wish I had a convertible to drive down some dusty backroad. Sure, the lyrics aren’t exactly Shakespeare (“the stars are bright, oh what a sight”), but who cares? Sometimes simplicity works. Plus, the harmonies are so lush you’ll forget you’re listening to a band nobody’s heard of since disco was king. Now, I gotta say, this isn’t gonna be everyone’s cup of tea. If you’re into modern auto-tuned pop or death metal polka (is that a thing?), you might scratch your head and wonder why anyone thought this was a good idea. But for those of us who love digging through the crates of forgotten music history, Flip Flip Zu Wah Summer Night is a treasure chest of quirks. So what’s the takeaway here? Maybe it’s that sometimes the best things come in small, weird packages. Or maybe it’s that The Computones knew something we don’t—that life’s better when you let loose and embrace the chaos. Either way, next time you’re cruising on a warm evening, throw this on and see if it doesn’t put a goofy grin on your face. And hey, if nothing else, it’s proof that even in 1978, people were still trying to figure out whether rock ‘n’ roll needed rules. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s something cool: The Computones released their rock album *Flip Flip Zu Wah Summer Night* in 1978 under the U.G.H.A. label. It’s a mix of rock with a doo-wop twist, which was pretty unique for its time. I remember a star-filled sky of Namiemachi, Fukushima where I went out to to play in the summer vacation of college student days and that beautiful girl when I hear this animation and this beautiful music. I cannot go there in an accident of the nuclear power generation anymore.
