Zoooriginals Number One by Daisuke Tanabe Jealousguy: A Sonic Playground You Didn’t Know You Needed Alright, so here’s the thing about Zoooriginals Number One—it’s one of those albums that sneaks up on you. Released in 2012 under Italy’s Original Cultures label, this little gem is a mashup of downtempo vibes, glitchy beats, and some seriously smooth hip-hop undertones. It's like your favorite playlist had a baby with something way more experimental, and honestly? That baby turned out kinda perfect. Let’s talk tracks for a sec because there are two that just stick to your brain like gum on a hot day. First up is “Hydra.” Man, this track feels like walking through a neon-lit city at 3 AM when everything’s quiet but also buzzing somehow. The beat drops in waves, glitching out just enough to keep you guessing what comes next. There’s this moment around the halfway mark where it all clicks together—the layers sync up like magic—and suddenly you’re not just listening anymore; you’re living inside the music. Feels weirdly intimate, right? Then there’s “Wana,” which hits different. This one has this lazy groove that makes you wanna nod your head while staring off into space thinking deep thoughts (or maybe just wondering why pizza always tastes better late at night). What gets me every time is how playful it is without trying too hard. Like, yeah, I know electronic music can sometimes feel cold or overly technical, but this? Nah, this feels alive. Almost like Daisuke Tanabe Jealousguy whispered secrets directly into the track, and now they’re spilling over into your ears. The whole album rides this line between chill and chaotic, kinda like life itself. And props to Ian Carter for mastering it—he really let those details shine without losing the soul of the thing. Oh, and shoutout to Ericailcane for the artwork too. It fits the vibe perfectly: quirky, colorful, and just a touch surreal. Here’s the kicker though—the longer you sit with Zoooriginals Number One, the more it starts to feel less like an album and more like a conversation. Each track brings its own personality to the table, but they all hang out together like old friends who finish each other's sentences. By the end, you realize you’ve been vibing with something bigger than just beats and samples—it’s art, man. Weird, wonderful art. So yeah, if you ever find yourself needing a soundtrack for those moments when reality feels both beautiful and slightly broken, give this one a spin. Just don’t blame me if you start hearing glitches in your dreams.

About Daisuke Tanabe Jealousguy

Patience is a virtue, and few know that better than understated electronic beat-maker Daisuke Tanabe. After carefully honing his craft from the age of 16, it was his first EP release in 2006 that really brought him to the attention of Gilles Peterson and Pete Adarkwah. Since then he has remixed artists such as Elan Mehler and Aaron Jerome, and released music on labels like Ninja Tune, BBE, and Brownswood Recordings. Taking inspiration from jazz, folk, and reggae as well as the whole canon of electronic music, this member of Tony Nwachukwu's CD-R community knows that notes and melodies are just the guidelines for the feelings that lie beneath. Dig a bit deeper and you're guaranteed to strike gold.
