Homelands 2002 Preview by Dirty Vegas: A Trip Down Electronic Memory Lane Alright, let’s talk about Homelands 2002 Preview by Dirty Vegas. If you’re into electronic music, especially the tech house and drum 'n' bass scene from the UK, this one’s a gem. Released back in 2002 under Muzik Magazine, it’s a DJ mix that feels like a time capsule of what made dance floors buzz during those days. The whole thing is crafted by Dirty Vegas themselves, who are basically kings of the genre. Let’s dive into it! First off, the tracklist is stacked. I mean, seriously—there’s something here for everyone. But two tracks really stuck with me after giving this album a spin (or five). The first one? “Where’s Your Head At? (Acappella).” Yeah, yeah, you’ve probably heard this one before—it’s kind of iconic—but hearing it dropped into this mix just hits different. It’s raw, stripped-down, and gives me chills every time. There’s no overproduced nonsense; it’s just pure energy wrapped up in vocals that feel like they’re talking directly to you. When it comes on, it’s impossible not to nod your head or mutter along. Honestly, it’s the kind of track that reminds you why electronic music can be so damn emotional without even trying. Then there’s “Bangbeater.” Oh man, this one slaps. It’s got this gritty, driving beat that builds and builds until you’re practically levitating out of your chair. The percussion hits hard, but it’s also super melodic in its own way. You know those moments when you’re listening to a song and suddenly realize you’ve been bobbing around like an idiot? That happened to me with this track. It’s chaotic yet smooth at the same time—a total contradiction, but hey, isn’t that what makes electronic music fun? What I love most about this mix is how seamless it feels. Dirty Vegas didn’t just throw together random bangers—they curated a vibe. Tracks like “Deep Funk” and “Alien Radio (Tony Thomas Mix)” add layers of depth, while cuts like “Throwing Shapes” keep things fresh and unpredictable. It’s the kind of mix where you forget you’re sitting at home because it tricks your brain into thinking you’re losing yourself on some packed dance floor in London. Looking back, Homelands 2002 Preview feels like more than just a collection of songs. It’s a snapshot of a moment when electronic music was evolving fast and breaking boundaries. Listening to it now, I can almost smell the stale club air and feel the bass vibrating through my shoes. Weirdly enough, it makes me nostalgic for places I’ve never been and nights I didn’t live through. So yeah, if you’re hunting for a mix that’ll take you back—or maybe forward—to the golden era of tech house and drum 'n' bass, give this one a shot. Just don’t blame me if you end up dancing alone in your living room. Oh, and bonus points if you find someone who actually went to Homelands 2002—I bet their stories would be wild.

Paul Harris, Steve Smith and Ben Harris are three lads from Kent and the South London suburbs with very different musical backgrounds, united by a shared love of a good tune and a passion for partying. Paul Harris started clubbing in his early teens and bagged his first professional DJ gig when he was 17, just before acid house took dance culture mainstream. He gradually began spending more time mixing and making records than playing them, but has continued to be successful as a DJ. A drummer since schooldays, Steve Smith gave up his job in the print trade during the rave explosion when he realized he could make more money playing live percussion in clubs at weekends. By the mid-90s he was playing in a band called Higher Ground, and when the singer left he reluctantly stepped in, discovering with some surprise that he had a fine voice. When the band fell apart he went to Ibiza to write, but then a chance meeting with Paul at an airport on the way to a club event led to a wild weekend, and the idea of making music together. Ben Harris (no relation to Paul) played guitar in indie rock band Fluid until they did their first demo and he saw how the engineer worked the mixing desk. He got a job in a recording studio, "got bitten by the dance bug
