DJ Addiction - Soulful Behaviour

Album Review: Soulful Behaviour by DJ Addiction Alright, let’s dive into Soulful Behaviour, the 2002 gem from DJ Addiction. Released under Run Recordings in the US, this album is a wild ride through Drum n Bass, Jungle, and Club/Dance vibes. If you’re into beats that make your heart race and grooves that glue you to the dancefloor, this one’s got your name on it. First off, I gotta shout out "Sanctuary." Man, this track just hits different. It starts with this dreamy vibe—like you’re floating—and then BOOM, the bass drops, and suddenly you’re wide awake. The drums are tight, crisp, and relentless, pulling you deeper into its world. There’s something about the way it builds up and releases energy—it feels like a rollercoaster for your ears. You can tell DJ Addiction knows how to craft tension and payoff perfectly. Honestly, every time I hear this track, I’m tempted to clear my living room and turn it into an impromptu rave. (Don’t judge me.) Another standout is "Pure Funk (From Us To You)." This one’s got groove written all over it. The funky bassline slaps so hard, you’ll wanna move whether you’re at a club or stuck in traffic. What makes it memorable is how smooth it feels—it’s not trying too hard but still manages to be infectious as hell. And those little melodic tweaks? Pure genius. It’s one of those tracks where you catch yourself humming along even after it’s over. Plus, it shows up twice on the album, which tells me DJ Addiction must’ve been pretty proud of it. Can’t blame him! Now, let’s talk about the mix overall. With DJ Addiction handling all 16 tracks, there’s a real sense of cohesion here. Tracks like "Keep Ur Distance" bring that edgy jungle flavor, while "A Better Day" leans more soulful and reflective. The variety keeps things fresh without losing the thread. And yeah, some songs repeat, but honestly? That’s part of the charm. It feels like revisiting old friends rather than hearing the same thing again. What really sticks with me about Soulful Behaviour is how it balances raw energy with moments of calm. It’s not just background music—it demands your attention. Listening to it feels like stepping back into 2002, when electronic music was pushing boundaries and experimenting with new sounds. But weirdly enough, it doesn’t feel dated. Maybe because good beats are timeless? So, here’s the unexpected twist—I listened to this album while folding laundry last weekend, and guess what? My socks have never been folded so enthusiastically. True story. If that’s not proof of its power, I don’t know what is. In short, Soulful Behaviour is a killer addition to any Drum n Bass fan’s collection. Give it a spin if you haven’t already. Who knows? You might end up dancing in your kitchen too.

About DJ Addiction

D J Addiction aka Jason Foreman started his career in the music world way back in the days of the early rave scene. His name Addiction came from his absolute passion for buying vinyls of all genres but predominantly dance music. He was addicted to the vibe and feel good factor that the pumping bass lines gave him. As the rave movement swept the country it lead Addiction to buy his first set of decks and so the story begins. After serving his first apprenticeship as a bedroom DJ and relentlessly recording DJ sets and handing out tapes to the main men at the time he began to find himself playing to crowds of up to 10,000+ in various warehouses up and down the country. This movement spawned the first generation of legal dance clubs in all major cities, but predominantly Manchester and London. As the scene split into two main genres - house and breaks - Addiction followed the latter and found himself with his first bona fide residency in the infamous "Eclipse" in his home city of Coventry. This lifted Addiction to the next level and eventually to his relationship with DJ Agency, Groove Connection. This opened the floodgates to a whole new ball game - that of the London scene which at the time was still developing and finding its niche. The collaboration between Fabio and LTJ Bukem gave birth to "Speed" (and follow-up, "Tempo

Awesome, love the way people argue and pigeon hole music, especially when they come up with genres that didn't exist when these tracks came out! It shows who were really around back then....
