Gayle & Gillian - Mad If You Dont

Mad If You Don’t by Gayle & Gillian: A 1993 UK Banger That Still Slaps Alright, let’s get one thing straight—this album is wild. Like, properly unhinged in the best way possible. Mad If You Don’t dropped in ‘93 when the UK electronic scene was absolutely on fire, and Gayle & Gillian didn’t just show up to the party; they freaking DJ’d it. With genres like Electronic and Pop colliding head-on with styles such as Happy Hardcore and House, this record feels like a sugar rush you can’t shake off. Released under Mushroom Records, this thing still hits harder than most modern playlists. Let’s dive into two tracks that stick out because, honestly, they’re unforgettable for very different reasons. First up: “Mad If You Don’t (Club Mix)”. Oh man, this track is pure chaos wrapped in gold foil. The beat grabs you by the throat from second zero, all pulsating synths and kick drums that sound like they were designed to make your heart race. It’s got that classic Happy Hardcore vibe—fast-paced but somehow euphoric, like running through a field of rainbows while someone yells at you to keep moving. What makes this version stand out is how relentless it feels. There’s no chill moment here—it’s nonstop energy, perfect for losing your mind on a dancefloor or screaming along in your car at 2 AM. This isn’t background music; this is front-and-center insanity, and I love every second of it. Then there’s “Sacred Kisses”, which flips the script entirely. Where “Mad If You Don’t” punches you in the face, this one sneaks up behind you and whispers sweet nothings. It’s softer, dreamier, almost ethereal compared to its hyperactive sibling. But don’t mistake soft for boring—this track builds slowly, layering melodies until you’re floating somewhere between heaven and an underground rave. The vocals are haunting yet warm, like someone telling you secrets you weren’t supposed to hear. By the time the drop hits, you realize you’ve been holding your breath without even noticing. It’s emotional, weirdly intimate, and totally unexpected coming from an album rooted in high-energy madness. Now, about that dub mix of “Mad If You Don’t”—it’s cool, sure, but let’s be real, it doesn’t quite pack the same punch as the club mix. Still solid though. No complaints here. So yeah, Mad If You Don’t is messy, loud, and unapologetically itself. And honestly? That’s why it works. Listening to it now feels like stepping into a time capsule where everything was brighter, faster, louder. Back then, people weren’t overthinking things—they just made music that made you feel alive. Here’s the kicker: if you handed me this album today, blindfolded, I’d probably think it was some new experimental artist trying too hard to be edgy. But nah, this came out in ‘93. Makes you wonder what happened to us, doesn’t it? We used to know how to have fun. Maybe we should take notes from Gayle & Gillian instead of pretending life needs to be so damn serious all the time. Or maybe I’m just mad coz I wasn’t there to experience it live. Either way, crank this up—you won’t regret it.

I loved this song. Regarding who is who, I think the girl with the fuller or wonky lip is Gayle, the one who played Christina Alessi, Paul’s wife. She is older than her sister, Gillian (actually pronounced with the G sound not the normal J sound), but not sure how much by xx

Oh, dear. How confusing. Initially you said they ''CAN sing..and ''have loads of talent''. You also said they ''sang it live brilliantly''. And now you say they were out of tune. How bemusing. I think they have great voices, though I always wondered which twin was which, and also which one sang the most, as one of them always sounds more prominent (in all their songs) than the other. I'd LOVE to see/hear the Blue Peter performance. I'm a HUGE fan. These girls could really sing.

I think you're seeing things, love. They both look gorgeous. You are also assuming that either one would take you up on your offer. I'm thinking not lol...

Their performance on Blue Peter was so out of tune. I adore them and their music, but them singing live on B.P. was better best forgotten.

This was originally produced by C.H.A.P.S., actually. And it was then also remixed and additionally produced by Dancin' Danny D (of D-Mob fame), who also produced concurrent work for the likes of Cathy Dennis, Dannii Minogue, Luciana. Look up 'Get It Up For Love', by Luciana, for example. It is also produced by Dancin' Danny D, and sounds very similar.
