Grass Widow - Internal Logic

Grass Widow’s Internal Logic: A DIY Gem That Still Resonates If you’re into music that feels like it was made in someone’s garage but still manages to sound kinda genius, Grass Widow’s Internal Logic is worth a spin. Released back in 2012, this album straddles genres like it’s no big deal—rock, indie pop, punk, new wave vibes, all mashed together with a lo-fi charm that just works. It’s the kind of record where you can tell everyone involved had their hands full—literally. Hannah Lew plays bass, sings, messes around on synths and piano, and did some of the design work? Respect. The band comes from the US, and while labels like Burger Records and HLR might not scream “mainstream,” they fit perfectly here. The whole thing was recorded by Phil Manley (you know, the dude who helps bands sound raw but polished?) and mastered by John Golden, so there’s a nice balance between rough edges and clarity. But let’s get real—it’s the songs themselves that stick with you. Take “Spock on Muni” for example. First off, how cool is that title? Like, what even is Spock doing on public transit? The track kicks off with this jangly guitar riff that sounds like it could’ve been lifted straight outta the ‘80s post-punk scene. Then there’s the vocals—layered harmonies that are kinda dreamy but also kinda detached, like they don’t care if you listen or not. And honestly? That attitude makes it hit harder. Every time I hear it, I imagine cruising through San Francisco on a foggy day, windows down, pretending I’m way cooler than I actually am. Then there’s “Whistling in the Dark.” This one’s got this driving beat courtesy of Lillian Maring on drums, and Raven Mahon laying down these wiry guitar lines that feel urgent without being overwhelming. There’s something about the melody that gets stuck in your head, but not in an annoying way—in a way that makes you want to hum along while staring out the window at nothing in particular. It’s moody but hopeful, like trying to find light in a dimly lit room. Or maybe that’s just me overthinking things again. One thing I love about Internal Logic is how it doesn’t try too hard. You can hear the imperfections—the way voices overlap slightly off-key, the occasional fuzziness in production—but instead of taking away from the experience, it adds character. It’s like hanging out with friends who aren’t trying to impress anyone; they’re just doing their thing, and somehow that makes you appreciate them more. But here’s the kicker: despite all its quirks, Internal Logic never feels chaotic. Sure, it jumps between styles—from indie rock bangers to softer, almost ballad-like moments—but it flows naturally, like flipping channels on an old TV and realizing every station has something good on. Weird analogy, I know, but roll with me here. So yeah, if you’re looking for an album that’s equal parts nostalgic and fresh, give Internal Logic a shot. Just don’t blame me when you start noticing how often you accidentally whistle in the dark afterward.

Interesting fact about Album

Did you know that the album *Internal Logic* by Grass Widow is a DIY masterpiece in more ways than one? Released in 2012, it blends genres like indie rock, punk, and new wave, but what really stands out is how hands-on the band was. Hannah Lew, one of the core members, didn’t just handle bass, vocals, and synths—she also contributed to typography and layout design. Even the front cover lettering was a collaborative effort with Caitlyn Galloway. It’s like they poured their creativity into every detail, making the album feel personal and uniquely theirs. And fun fact: two tracks, "Spock on Muni" and "Under the Atmosphere," are listed twice, almost like an intentional nod to duality or repetition in art. Pretty cool, right?

Feature there enough for polling
Let it surf our bodies
Expertise on doctor lies
A fool would sacrifice
This life, his quantify
Swing by his integrity
Were you there for conversation
You're my prodigy
Be amazed on attending
Nothing for no succes
Be gone and take the rest
And the land trophy
Play the sacred over here
Lean in over the town
Learning how to cut down
Be like the others on time
Better how do you like
Be there so anyone can see
In service of Alamaty
In one philosophy
Be on to turn the time
Let me out to go
Be with all the others on time
Be yourself however you like
Be with all the others on time
Be yourself however you like
Tell me how you ever gonna see
