Hexen Prozess - The Inquisition Process

Album Review: The Inquisition Process by Hexen Prozess Released in 2009, The Inquisition Process is an industrial and EBM-heavy journey that feels like a dark alleyway lit only by flickering neon lights. Self-released under their own label (because who needs gatekeepers?), Hexen Prozess delivers a gritty, unfiltered experience with Sheridan Willard handling programming and Randall Smith bringing the haunting vocals to life. It’s not perfect, but it doesn’t need to be—it’s raw, visceral, and dripping with atmosphere. Two tracks stand out for me personally, etching themselves into my brain long after the album ends. First up, “Funeral March (Remixed By Assurines)” hits hard right from the start. The remix version takes what could’ve been a straightforward track and twists it into something almost hypnotic. There’s this pulsating beat underneath layers of distorted synths that feels like being chased through a foggy forest—claustrophobic yet exhilarating. You can tell they didn’t just slap some effects on; there’s intention here, a deliberate crafting of tension. Then there’s “Tender Flesh (Gristle Mix By CeDigest),” which flips the script entirely. If “Funeral March” is all about relentless energy, this one creeps up on you slow and steady. The mix has this eerie quality, like listening to whispers in an abandoned factory. It builds gradually, layering textures until it becomes overwhelming—but in the best way possible. By the time the heavier beats kick in, you’re already submerged. This track sticks because it’s unpredictable without feeling chaotic. Every sound seems purposeful, even if you can’t quite put your finger on why. What makes The Inquisition Process work isn’t just its technical skill or genre-bending experiments—it’s how damn immersive it feels. Tracks like “Stalingrad (Hexen Prozess Remix)” and “Sense Of Decay (Hexen Prozess Remix)” show off their ability to rework existing material into something fresh while staying true to their industrial roots. Even quieter moments like “Fade Away” manage to leave an impression, proving they’ve got range beyond pounding rhythms and growling synths. But honestly? Listening to this album feels less like consuming music and more like surviving a dystopian nightmare—one that oddly comforts you once you’re done. It’s messy at times, sure, but maybe that’s the point. Perfection would’ve killed the vibe anyway. Final thought: I never expected to compare electronic music to a horror movie soundtrack, but here we are. And weirdly enough, it works. So kudos to Hexen Prozess—they made me question whether I should turn the lights back on after hitting play. Not many albums can do that. Rating: 8/10
