Jim Chapin - Speed Power Endurance

Alright, let’s dive into Speed Power Endurance by Jim Chapin—a hidden gem from 1992 that blends jazz and rock in this super cool way. Released under DCI Music Video in the US, this album doesn’t just sit in one genre; it hops between them like a caffeinated squirrel. And honestly? It works. Now, I gotta talk about the track “Speed.” Man, this one hits hard right outta the gate. It’s fast-paced (duh, it’s called “Speed”), but it’s not just about showing off how quick things can go—it’s got soul. The drumming is INSANE. Like, you can tell Chapin wasn’t messing around when he laid down these beats. There’s this raw energy to it, almost like he’s daring you to keep up. You don’t just listen to this song—you experience it. Every fill feels intentional, every crash lands with purpose. It’s the kind of track that makes me wanna grab a pair of sticks and pretend I know what I’m doing. Spoiler: I don’t. Then there’s “Power,” which takes things down a notch but still packs a punch. This tune feels more grounded compared to the wild ride of “Speed.” It’s groovy, man. The bassline digs deep, and the guitar riffs have this gritty edge that sticks with you long after the song ends. Honestly, it reminds me of those late-night jam sessions where everyone kinda forgets they’re playing music and just lets loose. That vibe? Pure magic. What I love most about this album is how unapologetically itself it is. It’s not trying to be perfect or polished—it’s just real. Jazz purists might raise an eyebrow at the rock influence, and rock fans might scratch their heads at the jazz bits, but hey, isn’t that what makes it special? It’s like peanut butter and pickles—sounds weird on paper, but somehow it clicks. Here’s the kicker though: listening to this album made me realize something kinda funny. Drummers are often stuck in the background, ya know? But here’s Jim Chapin saying, “Nah, let ME take center stage for once.” And dude absolutely crushes it. Makes me wonder why we ever doubted him in the first place. So yeah, if you’re looking for an album that breaks rules without even asking permission, check out Speed Power Endurance. Just maybe clear your schedule first—you won’t wanna stop hitting repeat.

I’ve been teaching myself for 1 year and practicing on my pad almost every day
After watching this I realised how important it is when playing matched grip to have absolute symmetry between left and right
Literally started just playing L R L R L R L R L R again
found a major floor in my Left hand and corrected it
All of the sudden it felt absolutely satisfying and balanced
This video has taught me a major lesson and I’m so glad it was uploaded
Thank you so much ?????????
