Review by Mohd Rahimi Radzi

Kamikazee’s Self-Titled Debut: A Punk-Rock Punch in the Face (2002) Let’s get one thing straight—Kamikazee’s Kamikazee isn’t just another pop-rock album. Released in 2002 under Warner Music Philippines Inc., this Filipino punk-infused rock record hits hard and doesn’t apologize for it. It's raw, unfiltered, and packs enough attitude to make you wanna smash something—or at least crank up the volume. The tracklist is all over the place but in the best way possible. You’ve got chaotic bangers like “MMM Sarrrap” and heartfelt gut-punches like “Sana Kahit Minsan.” These two tracks? They stick with you like gum on a hot summer day. “MMM Sarrrap” is an absolute earworm that slaps harder than your drunk uncle during karaoke night. The energy here is off the charts—sharp riffs, pounding drums, and vocals so aggressive they feel like they’re daring you to keep up. This song screams rebellion without taking itself too seriously. And yeah, the title alone makes you smirk because who wouldn’t laugh at something called "mmm sarrrap"? But don’t let the playful name fool ya; this jam will have you headbanging before you even realize what hit you. Then there’s “Sana Kahit Minsan,” which flips the vibe entirely. If “MMM Sarrrap” is the rowdy friend egging you on to start trouble, this track is the quiet buddy pulling you aside to spill their guts about love gone wrong. It’s emotional as hell, packed with lyrics that cut deep. When they sing about longing and regret, it feels personal—as if the band ripped those words straight from some angsty teenager’s diary. Honestly, this tune reminds me why I fell in love with OPM (Original Pilipino Music) in the first place: it’s real, messy, and human AF. Other songs like “Rocky Jz” and “Turon” add flavor to the mix, showing off Kamikazee’s knack for blending humor with solid musicianship. Even weirder picks like “Chinelas” showcase how fearless these guys are when it comes to experimenting. Sure, not every track lands perfectly, but damn does it feel authentic. Looking back, Kamikazee was ahead of its time—or maybe just didn’t give a fuck about trends. Either way, it carved out a space in the Pinoy music scene that still resonates today. What’s wild though? Listening to it now feels almost nostalgic, like finding an old mixtape in your drawer and realizing how much better music used to be before everything got so polished and safe. So here’s the kicker: Kamikazee didn’t just drop an album—they dropped a bomb. And whether you’re screaming along to “MMM Sarrrap” or tearing up to “Sana Kahit Minsan,” you can’t deny the impact. Now excuse me while I dig through my CDs to see if I still own this gem… or maybe I’ll just stream it and pretend I’m still cool.
