La Fleur - Flowerhead EP

Review by Jamie Morse

Flowerhead EP by La Fleur: A Sonic Bloom Worth Remembering Released in 2010 on Power Plant Records, Flowerhead EP by La Fleur is one of those albums that sneaks up on you. It’s not trying too hard to impress, but it does anyway. With its mix of Pop/Rock and Electronic vibes, plus a healthy dose of House and Tech House styles, this German gem feels like a late-night drive through neon-lit streets. The album art, handled by Olaf Hajek with art direction from Håkan Ullberg, adds a quirky visual layer that matches the music's vibe—playful yet edgy. The standout tracks here are “Flowerhead [Cassy Remix]” and “Et La Fleur.” Let’s break ‘em down. First off, “Flowerhead [Cassy Remix].” This version takes the original track and gives it an almost hypnotic twist. The bassline grooves just right—it’s deep enough to make your chest vibrate but smooth enough to keep things chill. What sticks with me is how the percussion builds subtly; it doesn’t rush, letting each beat land like footsteps on soft soil. You don’t notice at first, but soon you’re fully immersed, swaying without even realizing it. Cassy really knew what she was doing here, adding layers that feel both intimate and expansive. Then there’s “Et La Fleur,” which hits different. It’s more melodic compared to the other tracks, almost dreamlike. There’s something about the way the synths swirl around—you can practically see colors shifting as you listen. It’s got this understated energy, like watching sunlight filter through trees. I found myself hitting replay just to catch all the little details tucked into the mix. Honestly, it’s the kind of song that makes you wish you were sipping coffee somewhere artsy while pretending to be profound. What’s wild is how cohesive the whole project feels despite being remixed multiple times. Whether it’s Dana Ruh’s take or the 2016 rework, every version of “Flowerhead” brings something fresh to the table. La Fleur clearly gave these remixers room to play, and they ran with it. Looking back, Flowerhead EP might not have set the world on fire when it dropped, but it’s aged well. Like, really well. In a time when everyone’s chasing viral hits, this record reminds us that sometimes the best stuff grows quietly, like flowers pushing through cracks in the pavement. And hey, isn’t that kinda beautiful? Oh, and fun fact: listening to this EP makes me crave pretzels for some reason. Go figure.
