Review by Иоанна Воливач

Alright, let’s dive into Perdidos E Bobos by Lucas Arruda. Released in 2017 on the French label Favorite Recordings, this album is a smooth blend of jazz and soul vibes with just enough funk to keep things groovy. It’s got that cool jazz feel but also dips its toes into some laid-back soul territory—perfect for chillin’ or vibin’ solo. First off, gotta talk about “Perdidos E Bobos (Vocal).” This track hits different right from the start. The vocals are buttery smooth, kinda like sipping coffee on a lazy Sunday morning. You know those songs where you don’t even realize you’ve listened to it three times already? Yeah, that’s this one. There’s something hypnotic about how the melody flows—it doesn’t try too hard, which makes it stick. Honestly, I couldn’t tell ya if it was the rhythm or the vibe, but either way, it’s memorable as heck. Then there’s “Onda Nova,” which feels like a little surprise tucked at the end of the album. It switches gears slightly, leaning more into an upbeat groove that gets your head nodding before you even notice. What stands out here is the bassline—it’s funky without being over-the-top, giving the whole thing a warm, danceable energy. Like, you’re not sure whether to sit back and soak it in or get up and move. Spoiler: you’ll probably do both. The dub versions of “Perdidos E Bobos” sprinkled throughout the album add a nice twist too. They give the tracks a fresh spin without losing their essence, almost like hearing the same story told by someone else—you catch new details every time. What’s wild about this album is how effortlessly it blends genres. It’s French, but it doesn’t scream "French music." It’s international, yet super accessible. And while it leans heavily into jazz and soul, it never feels stuck in one box. By the time you hit play on the last track, you’re left wondering why more albums can’t be this easygoing yet impactful. Final thought? Listening to Perdidos E Bobos feels like finding an old vinyl at a flea market and realizing it’s exactly what you didn’t know you needed. Oh, and fun fact—I’m pretty sure my cat started swaying to “Onda Nova.” True story.
