Album Review: Vice Versa by Man With No Name Man With No Name’s Vice Versa is one of those albums that sneaks up on you, like a neon-lit road trip through your brain. Released in 2014 under the UK-based label Perfecto Fluoro, this thing is drenched in electronic goodness—Progressive Trance and Psy-Trance vibes all over the place. It’s not just music; it’s an experience, man. Let me break it down for ya. First off, there’s the Vice Versa (Original Mix). This track? Pure fire. The moment it kicks in, you feel like you’ve been strapped to some kind of intergalactic spaceship blasting off into deep space. There’s no messing around here—it grabs hold of you with its pulsating bassline and doesn’t let go. It’s got this hypnotic rhythm that makes your head nod involuntarily, like “Yeah, okay, I’m coming with you.” The synths are sharp but not overwhelming, layered just right so they swirl around your ears without being too much. Honestly, I couldn’t stop replaying this one—it stuck to my brain like gum on a hot sidewalk. Then there’s the Vertical Mode Remix. Oh wow, where do I even start? If the Original Mix feels like outer space, this remix turns it into a whole other dimension. Vertical Mode takes the bones of the original and builds something darker, heavier, more intense. It’s as if someone cranked up the drama dial to eleven. Around the three-minute mark, when the drop hits, it’s like getting punched in the chest—but in a good way, y’know? That kind of punch that leaves you breathless but smiling afterward. Seriously, if this track doesn’t make you wanna move, check your pulse. The rest of the album follows suit—radio edits and variations keep things fresh, though nothing quite hits the same way these two tracks do. What sticks out about Vice Versa isn’t just how polished it sounds (because it does), but how raw and emotional it feels at times. You can tell Man With No Name poured his soul into this project. Now here’s the kicker: listening to this album made me realize how rare it is to find music that actually transports you somewhere else entirely. Like, yeah, sure, we’ve all heard trance before, but this…this felt different. By the time I finished the last track, I found myself staring out the window thinking about life choices I haven’t even made yet. Weird, right? So yeah, Vice Versa. Not perfect, but damn close. If you’re into stuff that makes you think, dance, or both at the same time, give this a spin. Just don’t blame me if you end up zoning out in the middle of work or whatever.

Initially starting out as a British techno producer in the late 1980s, Martin Freeland became hugely influenced by the early nineties Goa trance scene. He scored a top 75 hit with 'Floor-Essence' before releasing the influential 'Moment Of Truth' album in 1996, as well as remixing work for many artists, such as Virus, Perfecto Allstarz, BT and Dreadzone. A second album was released in 1998 on Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto album, which was aimed towards the more commercial sound of euphoric trance of the era. A third album 'Interstate Highway' was released by Dragonfly Records in 2003, showcasing Freeland's more progressive psytrance sound.
