Pulsar Remix by Mauro Picotto: A Trance Journey That Sticks With You If you’re into electronic music, especially the kind that makes your chest vibrate and your mind drift off to some neon-lit galaxy, Pulsar Remix is an album worth diving into. Released in 2014 under a bunch of labels like Zeitgeist and ZYX Music (yeah, it’s got credentials), this record feels like Mauro Picotto took his signature trance sound, threw it in a blender with Hard Trance vibes, and hit "puree." The result? Something chaotic but oddly addictive. The tracklist reads like a remix fever dream—nine versions of “Pulsar,” each one twisting the original tune in ways that make you go, “Wait…is this still the same song?” Spoiler: It kinda is, but not really. Two tracks stood out for me, though, and honestly, they’ve been stuck in my head ever since I first heard them. First up, there’s “Pulsar (DJ Tiesto Remix)”. Oh man, this one hits different. If you’ve ever listened to Tiësto’s work, you know he has this knack for turning anything he touches into pure festival fuel. This remix is no exception. The buildups are slow-burners, teasing you until BAM—it drops, and suddenly you’re transported straight to a sweaty rave somewhere in Berlin. It’s euphoric without being over-the-top cheesy, which is hard to pull off. Every beat feels calculated, every synth swell pulls you deeper. By the end of it, I was just sitting there thinking, “How do people even function after hearing stuff like this?!” Then there’s “Pulsar (Kopfuss Resonator Remix)”, which is wild in its own right. Where the Tiësto version is all about polish and precision, this one leans harder into raw energy. It’s darker, grittier, almost like it doesn’t care if you can keep up or not. There’s this moment midway through where the bassline just slaps so hard, it’s impossible not to move. Like, seriously, try listening to it while standing still—it won’t happen. I found myself zoning out completely during this track, imagining lasers shooting across the sky or whatever else happens at those massive outdoor raves I’ll probably never attend. What gets me about this album isn’t just how many flavors of “Pulsar” exist—it’s how each version manages to feel distinct despite coming from the same DNA. Some remix albums fall flat because they start feeling redundant, but Pulsar Remix avoids that trap. Credit goes to Picotto and co-writers G. Bortolotti and R. Ferri for creating something flexible enough to let other producers run wild with it. But here’s the thing: as much as I love this album, part of me wonders if anyone outside the die-hard trance community would give it a chance. In 2023, when everyone’s obsessed with hyperpop and bedroom beats, does something like Pulsar Remix still have a place? Maybe not—but maybe that’s okay. Sometimes art doesn’t need to be mainstream to matter. And hey, who knows? Maybe someday someone will rediscover this gem and drop it in a TikTok video, bringing trance back to the masses. Until then, crank this bad boy loud, close your eyes, and let yourself get lost in the pulse.
