Parafuso - Love Story

Review by Justby Haqi

Love Story by Parafuso: A Mozambican Comedy Extravaganza That’s Not Really About Music Alright, let’s get one thing straight—this album isn’t your typical “music” music. Nope. Love Story by Parafuso is more like a chaotic family gathering where everyone’s laughing at inside jokes you don’t quite understand but can’t help enjoying anyway. Released under Delta Records, this Mozambican gem lands squarely in the genre of… well, non-music? And its style? Comedy. So buckle up because we’re diving into an album that’s less about melody and harmony and more about making you snort-laugh in public. The tracklist reads like a soap opera script written by someone who had too much coffee: Domingo À Tardinha, Meu Amor Minha Mamana, A Mamana Que Sonhei, and História Do Love. Let me tell ya, these titles alone are worth the price of admission. But hey, I’ll zoom in on two tracks that stuck with me longer than my last bad haircut. First up, Meu Amor Minha Mamana. Oh man, this one hits differently. It’s got this weirdly catchy rhythm—if you can even call it that—and the vocals sound like they were recorded during a karaoke night gone horribly right. Like, imagine your drunk uncle trying to serenade the entire wedding party, except he’s actually kinda charming. The lyrics bounce between heartfelt and hilariously absurd, which makes it impossible not to grin while listening. By the time the chorus kicks in (or what I think is the chorus), you’re either dancing awkwardly or questioning all your life choices. Either way, mission accomplished. Then there’s História Do Life—wait no, sorry, História Do Love. This track feels like someone mashed together a stand-up comedy routine and a telenovela soundtrack. There’s a lot of dramatic pauses, random sound effects, and moments where you’re pretty sure the artist just made something up on the spot. But damn if it doesn’t work. Halfway through, I found myself muttering, “Wait, is this satire? Or am I the punchline?” Honestly, I still don’t know, and I love it for that. Now, here’s the kicker: despite being labeled as “non-music,” Love Story somehow manages to worm its way into your brain. Maybe it’s the sheer audacity of it all—the unpolished production, the over-the-top humor, the fact that it comes from Mozambique, a place rarely spotlighted in global pop culture. Whatever it is, Parafuso has crafted something genuinely unforgettable. So, would I recommend this album? Absolutely. Just don’t expect to play it at your next dinner party unless you want your guests staring at you like you’ve lost your mind. In a world full of overly serious musicians taking themselves way too seriously, Love Story reminds us that sometimes art doesn’t need to be perfect—it just needs to make you laugh until you cry. Or maybe cry until you laugh. Who knows anymore? Final thought: If Parafuso ever decides to tour, I’m buying tickets immediately. Mostly so I can figure out whether they’re geniuses or just messing with us. Either way, count me in.
