Review by Willie Liao

Duo Science - The Underrated Drum n Bass Beast from 2011 Alright, let’s cut the crap. Duo Science by DuoScience isn’t just another electronic album lost in the sea of 2011 releases—it’s a punch-you-in-the-face reminder of why Dutch producers still rule the Drum n Bass game. Released under Fokuz Recordings (you know, those legends who always bring the heat), this record is raw, unfiltered energy with enough groove to make your headphones feel like they’re vibrating outta control. First off, “Mona Lisa.” Yeah, that track. It slaps harder than most stuff you’ve heard this year. The bassline? Filthy. Like, I-don’t-even-care-if-my-neighbors-complain filthy. You can tell these guys weren’t trying to play it safe—they went full throttle on this one. And damn, does it work. There’s something about how the beat drops that feels like getting hit by a truck...in a good way. Every time that synth riff kicks back in, it’s like, “Oh yeah, we’re doing this again.” This song sticks because it doesn’t overthink itself—it’s pure chaos wrapped up in tight production. Then there’s “Super Star,” which hits different but still crushes. If “Mona Lisa” is the wild banger at 3 AM, “Super Star” is the smooth operator creeping through the shadows. It’s got this hypnotic vibe that sneaks up on you before exploding into a wall of sound so crisp it could cut glass. Honestly, I kept replaying this track just to figure out how they pulled off those transitions—it’s slick as hell without feeling forced. Plus, the melodies? Stuck in my head for days, man. The rest of the album ain’t bad either—tracks like “Brighter” and “Sunday” keep things fresh, though they don’t quite hit the same highs as the standouts. Still, props to DuoScience for keeping the momentum going. They didn’t phone it in, and that counts for something when half the albums out there feel like lazy copy-paste jobs. Here’s the kicker: even though this came out over a decade ago, Duo Science sounds fresher than half the garbage flooding Spotify playlists today. Maybe that says more about modern music than it does about this album, but whatever—it’s their win. Final thought? Listening to this makes me wanna dig up more from Fokuz Recordings. Or maybe just scream into the void about why Drum n Bass doesn’t get enough love anymore. Either way, respect to DuoScience for dropping an LP that still bangs. Now go listen to it—you won’t regret it unless you hate fun.
