Peter Cook & Dudley Moore - Love Me Bedazzled

Review by Retha Dungga

Love Me Bedazzled: A Psychedelic Romp Through Pop, Stage & Screen (and Maybe Your Brain) Let’s talk about Love Me Bedazzled, the gloriously unhinged 1967 album by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. Yes, that Peter Cook and Dudley Moore—the comedy duo who somehow managed to sneak this chaotic gem into the world under the Parrot label. It’s a wild ride through Pop, Stage & Screen, with a dash of Psychedelic Rock and Score thrown in for good measure. If you’re looking for something that feels like The Beatles got trapped in a vaudeville show with Monty Python as the audience, you’ve found it. First up, let’s chat about “Love Me.” Oh boy. This track is basically what happens when someone tries to write a love song but gets distracted halfway through by a kaleidoscope. The lyrics are cheeky, bordering on absurd, and Dudley Moore’s piano work? Absolutely bonkers. You can almost picture him smashing the keys like he’s trying to wake them up. What sticks with me most is how they manage to make “love” sound less like romance and more like a fever dream where Cupid shows up wearing clown shoes. I mean, seriously—how do you forget that? Then there’s “Bedazzled,” which might as well be the soundtrack to a hallucination. It’s theatrical, over-the-top, and dripping with sass. Think of it as the musical equivalent of someone winking at you while juggling flaming torches. The orchestration here is nuts—strings swoop in like they’re auditioning for a James Bond theme, and Dudley’s vocals are so smooth they could sell used cars. Honestly, I think this track would’ve been banned from polite society if anyone had actually heard it back then. But hey, that’s what makes it unforgettable. So yeah, Love Me Bedazzled isn’t your typical album. It’s messy, it’s weird, and it’s probably not going to win any awards for subtlety. But damn if it doesn’t stick to your brain like glitter glue. Listening to it feels like stumbling into a party where everyone’s having way too much fun without you—but also inviting you to join in anyway. Final thought: If aliens ever land and ask us to explain human culture using one record, I’m half-convinced we should hand them this one. Either they’ll get it immediately, or they’ll leave Earth forever confused. Either way, mission accomplished.

Comedy partnership that ran for most of the 1960s and 70s, ending as Dudley Moore's film career began to grow. Two of their comedy characters "Pete and Dud" would evolve into their alter-egos who would perform more of their adult material.

Whaaatttt??? Awesome!!! ✌ Peace Man!!! ?

I didn't see or even know this film existed until the late 70's and what Peter Cook did in this song always made me think of something from a punk band.

For decades I've remembered the line, "Oh, here am I, don't be shy, come and love me" - but that isn't on the record - ?

I always wondered if, when this movie was released, Peter and Dudley ever went on any actual British TV music shows and performed these songs, to promote the film.

I never knew this was on vinyl either. But I have to admit it's just not the same without the visual and people who never saw the film might not get it at all. This was also my favourite
part of the film.

Somebody used to play this single on KUSF back in the late 90's but he's gone now and I've worn out the places I've recorded both Peter and Dudley's songs on the audio tapes I had them on and have no clue where they are now. Thank you very much for posting!
