C’est Le Refrain De Ma Vie: A Timeless Gem from Petula Clark (1970) If you’ve ever stumbled across an album that feels like a warm hug wrapped in velvet, C’est Le Refrain De Ma Vie by Petula Clark might just be it. Released in 1970, this record is a delightful mashup of genres—Stage & Screen, Pop—and styles like Soundtrack, Ballad, and Chanson. It’s got enough charm to make your heart skip a beat, whether you’re sipping espresso in Paris or stuck in traffic somewhere between Lebanon and Canada. The album dances through emotions with tracks arranged and conducted by legends Johnny Harthey and Michel Legrand. And let’s not forget Claude Wolff on production duties, who clearly knew how to keep things smooth. But what makes this LP stand out? Let me pick two tracks that’ll stick to your brain like gum under a café table. First up: “C’est Le Refrain De Ma Vie.” Oh man, where do I even start? This song hits you right in the feels—it’s one of those tunes that feels both intimate and epic at the same time. The orchestration by Johnny Arthey gives it this lush, cinematic vibe, as if every note has its own little story to tell. You can almost picture Petula standing center stage, belting her heart out while dramatic spotlights swirl around her. There’s something about the way she sings "c'est le refrain de ma vie" that feels so raw yet polished—you know, like when someone tells you exactly how they feel without sugarcoating anything. It’s haunting but beautiful, kinda like watching autumn leaves fall while drinking coffee that’s gone cold. Then there’s “La Plus Belle Histoire D’Amour,” which is basically love bottled up into three minutes of pure magic. With Michel Legrand pulling strings (literally) behind the scenes, this track feels like floating on clouds made of silk sheets. The melody wraps itself around you like a cozy blanket, and Petula’s voice? She doesn’t just sing; she whispers secrets straight into your soul. Every word feels intentional, like she’s lived every second of the story she’s telling. By the end, you’re either reaching for tissues or hugging yourself because dang, girl knows how to tug at heartstrings. Now, here’s the thing about this album—it’s not perfect. Some tracks lean a bit too heavy on the cheese factor, and yeah, some moments feel more dated than others. But honestly? That’s part of its charm. It’s messy in all the right ways, like flipping through old photo albums filled with faded Polaroids and scribbled notes. As I sat listening to this record, I couldn’t help but think about how music connects us across borders and decades. Here’s Petula, singing in French and English, weaving tales that resonate whether you’re in France, Lebanon, or heck, even Canada. And then it hit me—this album isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s about universality. Love, longing, joy—they’re timeless themes no matter where you are or what language you speak. So go ahead, give C’est Le Refrain De Ma Vie a spin. Just don’t blame me if you find yourself humming “La Plus Belle Histoire D’Amour” during your next grocery run. Oh, and one last thought: whoever took those photos for the cover? Hats off to them. Petula looks absolutely radiant—like she stepped out of a dream and onto vinyl.

Born November 15, 1932, in Epsom, Surrey (England). She began as a singing child prodigy in the U.K. at the age of 9. Promoted and tutored by an enthusiastic father, she had started singing professionally at the age of seven and became a familiar singing voice on wartime radio and in concerts for the troops. By the end of the 1940s she was an established singing star and she also appeared as an actress in many films of the era working with such stars as Peter Ustinov, Anthony Newley and Alec Guinness. Petulas first recordings were Rank promo 78s in 1949 and her first commercial recording was House in the sky / Put your shoes on Lucy for Columbia in 1949. Her first major recording contract was with Polygon Records in 1950 and her first chart success was in 1954 with The little shoemaker which also got issued on 45 and 78 in the USA. A series of chart successes continued in the U.K. from the 1950s to the early 70s Including two #1s Sailor and This is my song. In 1988 a remix of Downtown brought her back to the UK Top 10. Her breakthrough on the continent was in 1957 with With all my heart hitting the upper reaches of the Dutch and Belgian charts, and Petulas first French language hit the same year was Histoire d'un amour. Petula married Frenchman Claude Wolff in 1961 by which time she was already one of Frances top girl singers and through the 1960s big hits such as Romeo, Ya ya twist Coeur blessé Chariot Que fait tu là Petula" and Cest ma chanson. In 1962 Petula topped the German charts with Monsieur which she only recorded in the German language which won her a gold disc there and she also topped the charts in Italy and Spain with songs sung in Italian and Spanish. In 1965 Petula finally broke America with her number one double Grammy award winning song Downtown and she won another Grammy for the follow up I know a place and in 1966 she became the first British female singer to top the American charts twice with My love in 1966 and voted Top female singer by Cashbox music trade magazine and in 1968 by Playboy magazine. Petula hit the American Top 40 15 times in three years. Petula has continued to record and appeared in concert all over the world and in 2012 her Cut copy me hit the Belgian pop charts and a dance remix hit the club charts all over Europe. Petula was back on the British album charts in 2013 with Lost in you and in 2016 with From now on. Her brand newly recorded French-Canadian album Vu dici peaked at #39 on the ITunes daily national chart in Canada in 2018 and in 2019 a hits album reached the physical album and sales chart in the U.K. 70 years after her first record release.

Interesting fact about Album

Here’s a fun fact: Petula Clark’s album *C’est Le Refrain De Ma Vie*, released in 1970, is like a musical passport. It blends genres like Stage & Screen, Pop, and styles such as Ballad and Chanson, reflecting her international appeal. The album was released in Lebanon, Canada, and France, showing her cross-cultural influence. What’s even cooler? Two legendary arrangers, Johnny Harthey and Michel Legrand, split the musical duties—Harthey handled side A, while Legrand took side B. Tracks like *La Plus Belle Histoire D’amour* even got reimagined with English versions, proving Petula’s knack for connecting with diverse audiences. Pretty neat, right?

If this video and its beautiful music and singer ain't the best, then I can't imagine what would be. Petula Clark, as far as I'm concerned, is the best there ever has been and a thousand times better than any singer in today's world of music.
I view any video featuring Petula Clark and I end up making love to her, in my dreams. of course, but yes, in THAT way.
