Scream Silence - Heartburnt

Heartburnt by Scream Silence: A Sonic Trip Through Shadows and Light Let’s get one thing straight—Heartburnt isn’t your run-of-the-mill rock album. Released in 2015 by Germany’s own Scream Silence, this record dives headfirst into a mix of Prog Rock, Alternative Rock, and Goth Rock vibes that’ll leave you feeling like you’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster. It’s moody, layered, and packed with enough hooks to keep even casual listeners hooked for days. Produced under Plainsown Records, it feels less like a studio creation and more like a living, breathing entity crafted by people who really know their stuff. First up, let’s talk about the opening track, "Born With Blood On My Hands." If there’s one song here that grabs you by the collar and demands attention, it’s this one. The guitars hit hard right from the start, courtesy of René Gödde, while Hardy Fieting’s vocals carry this haunting grit that sticks with you long after the last note fades. There’s something raw and almost cinematic about how the music swells—it's got this gothic undertone but still manages to feel oddly hopeful. Like staring at storm clouds rolling in but knowing there’s sunlight just beyond them. You don’t forget tracks like this because they make you feel. And honestly? That synth work creeping in halfway through? Chef’s kiss. Another standout is "The Seventh Sorrow," which hits different entirely. This one leans heavier into prog territory, weaving intricate keyboard lines (also handled by Hardy) with crushing basslines from Hagen Schneevoigt. The drumming by Nestor De Valley deserves its own shoutout too—it’s tight yet explosive, adding this heartbeat-like pulse to the whole thing. Lyrically, Anthony J. Brown nails it again; the words are poetic without being pretentious, like someone whispering secrets only you can understand. What makes this track unforgettable is how seamlessly all these elements come together—it’s not flashy or overdone, just pure craftsmanship. One thing worth mentioning is the artwork by jo.bekker. It perfectly mirrors the tone of the album—dark, mysterious, and kinda beautiful in a messed-up way. Same goes for Annie Bertram’s photography, which adds another layer of depth to the overall vibe. Kudos to everyone involved—it’s clear no corners were cut here. Now here’s where I throw a curveball: as much as I love the heavier tracks, some of the softer moments caught me off guard. Tracks like “We Can Do No Wrong” have this dreamy pop sensibility that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. It’s like finding a ray of sunshine breaking through a rainstorm—you didn’t see it coming, but damn if it doesn’t brighten your day. In the end, Heartburnt feels less like an album and more like a journey—one that leaves you questioning what you thought you knew about rock music. Sure, it’s got its flaws (what album doesn’t?), but those imperfections only add to its charm. Listening to it feels like flipping through old photographs: familiar yet distant, comforting yet unsettling. And hey, fun fact—if you ever find yourself stuck in traffic, put this on. Trust me, those gridlock minutes will fly by faster than you think. Who knew heartburn could sound so good?

The final thing on my mind
is hiding from my heart
from the daybreak to the night train
I'm on guard

I sleepwalk to the summer
there's safety in the dark
from the prison you have wisdom
to impart

All I see - echoes of you...

Solidarity in Silence
drifting through the park
but reflections and these questions
cause alarm

Distance ist´the devil
I'm numb when it's so far
but the pressures when we're together
bring me harm

That's the downside of my life

All I hear - echoes of you...

It's my life
echoes of you
That's the downside of my life
I'm thinking of echoes of you
