Slipknot’s The Collection – A Nu Metal Beast That Still Kicks Ass (2004) Alright, so here's the deal with Slipknot's The Collection. Released back in 2004 under Roadrunner Records and BMG Russia, this album is basically a greatest hits package for anyone who digs their chaotic brand of nu metal. It’s not one of those "new material" albums, but honestly? It doesn’t need to be. This thing slaps hard enough as it is. If you’re even remotely into rock or metal, you’ve probably heard some of these tracks before. But if you haven’t, buckle up—this is like getting punched in the face by a tornado wearing a clown mask. Let me just throw out two tracks that stick with me every damn time I hear ‘em. First up: “Spit It Out.” Oh man, this song is straight fire. The intro riff alone makes me wanna smash something (in a good way). Corey Taylor’s vocals are all over the place—part screaming banshee, part pissed-off preacher—and somehow it works. Then there’s that iconic chant-y part where he goes “Are you ready?! ARE YOU READY TO FUCKING GOOOO?!” Like…how do you NOT lose your mind when that drops live? You can’t. It’s impossible. Every time I hear this track, I feel like I’m at some sweaty mosh pit, even if I’m just sitting on my couch eating chips. And then there’s “People = Shit.” Holy crap, talk about rage bottled into three minutes. This one feels like Slipknot took all their anger toward humanity and distilled it into pure audio chaos. The drums are relentless, the guitars sound like they’re trying to start a riot, and Corey sounds like he wants to burn the world down. But weirdly enough, it’s kinda cathartic? Like yeah, people suck sometimes, but hearing someone scream about it makes you feel less alone in your misery. Plus, the breakdown near the end? Chef’s kiss. The rest of the album has bangers too—obviously. Tracks like “Wait And Bleed,” “Duality,” and “Left Behind” remind you why Slipknot became legends in the first place. They don’t mess around. Even slower tunes like “My Plague” hit different because they mix raw emotion with that signature Slipknot heaviness. But here’s the kicker: listening to this collection now feels almost nostalgic. Not in a sappy way, but more like, “Damn, remember when music could make you feel THIS much?” These guys weren’t just making noise—they were creating moments. Moments that still slap years later. So yeah, The Collection might just be a compilation album, but it’s got enough grit and fury to leave a mark. If nothing else, it proves Slipknot wasn’t just another band—they were a force of nature. And honestly? I wouldn’t mind seeing them invade Russia again…you know, musically speaking.
