Review by RODRIGUEZ LOSA

Album Review: Was That You Psychological Mix by Spear Of Destiny Alright, so let’s talk about this quirky little gem from 1987. Was That You Psychological Mix by Spear Of Destiny might not be the first thing that pops into your head when you think of Synth-pop, but man, does it have its own vibe. Released under 10 Records in the UK, this album feels like a time capsule from an era where electronic music was still finding its feet—and having a blast doing it. First off, big props to Kirk Brandon for writing these tracks and Neil King for mixing and recording most of the heavy hitters (B1 to B3). It’s one of those albums where you can tell everyone involved had fun experimenting with sounds. Now, onto the standout tracks because, honestly, there are two that stuck with me long after the needle lifted off the record. The title track, "Was That You? (Psychological Mix)", is just wild. Like, imagine walking through a neon-lit city at night while your brain tries to process some deep existential thought—yeah, that’s what this song feels like. The synths are all over the place in the best way possible, giving it this dreamy yet slightly unsettling edge. I mean, who doesn’t love a good psychological twist in their music? It’s catchy enough to stick in your head but weird enough to make you go, “Wait…what did I just listen to?” And isn’t that kind of the point? Then there’s "Jack Straw (Live)". This track has grit. You can practically hear the energy bouncing off the walls during the live performance. There’s something raw about how they pull it off—it’s less polished than the studio stuff, sure, but that’s exactly why it works. It’s got this punky undertone mixed with electronic elements that makes you wanna grab a mic and scream along even if you don’t know the words. Plus, hearing the crowd react adds this extra layer of connection. Feels real, y’know? Now, here’s the thing: this album isn’t perfect. Some of the other tracks feel like filler compared to these standouts. But hey, maybe that’s part of its charm. It’s scrappy, experimental, and unapologetically itself. In a world full of hyper-produced pop hits, Was That You Psychological Mix reminds us that sometimes, it’s okay to lean into the chaos. Random thought as I wrap this up: If this album were a person, it’d probably wear leather jackets covered in patches and spend hours tweaking knobs on vintage gear in a basement studio. And honestly? I’d totally hang out with them. So yeah, give this one a spin if you’re into Synth-pop with a side of unpredictability. Just be ready for a ride—you might walk away questioning everything…including whether that really was you.
