Fetenhits Best Of 2001: A Chaotic Love Letter to German Schlager and Beyond Alright, buckle up, because Fetenhits Best Of 2001 is like that one friend who shows up to a party wearing mismatched socks but somehow still steals the show. This album’s got everything—Hip Hop vibes, Pop bangers, Rock riffs, and an unapologetic embrace of Schlager-style cheese. Released in Germany by Polystar (shoutout to them for not overthinking this mess), it’s basically a musical buffet where you’re never quite sure what you’re gonna get next. Let’s dive into two tracks that stuck with me like gum on a hot sidewalk: “Born To Be Alive (Radio Edit)” Oh man, if this song doesn’t scream “karaoke night gone wild,” I don’t know what does. It’s catchy as hell, even though it feels like someone took all the energy from a rave and crammed it into three minutes of pure chaos. The beat hits hard enough to make your grandma bust out some questionable dance moves, and honestly? That’s why I love it. You can’t help but sing along—even if you sound like a dying walrus while doing so. “Ich Hab Drei Haare Auf Der Brust” Now THIS is peak Schlager gold. Translated, it means “I Have Three Hairs On My Chest,” which already tells you everything you need to know about its absurd charm. The lyrics are hilariously self-aware, almost mocking the whole macho stereotype while simultaneously leaning into it. Like, bruh, owning three chest hairs isn’t exactly flex-worthy material, but here we are celebrating it anyway. And guess what? By the end of the track, you’ll find yourself chanting those words like they’re gospel. Don’t ask me how—it just works. --- The rest of the album follows suit: random covers (Country Roads, anyone?), unexpected remixes (Boom Boom slaps harder than it has any right to), and plenty of guilty pleasures. Tracks like L’Italiano will transport you straight to a Mediterranean beach bar, while Liebficken proves once again that Germans have no chill when it comes to wordplay. What makes Fetenhits Best Of 2001 special isn’t its polish or cohesion—it’s the sheer audacity of throwing genres and styles together without caring whether they match. It’s messy, loud, and occasionally baffling, but damn if it isn’t fun. If anything, it reminds us that music doesn’t always need to be deep or meaningful; sometimes, it just needs to give people an excuse to grab another beer and yell-sing at the top of their lungs. So yeah, would I recommend this album? Absolutely—if you’re into unpredictable playlists that feel like they were curated by a very confused DJ. Just don’t blame me if you wake up tomorrow humming Speedy Gonzales. Final thought: Whoever decided to include both Do Wah Diddy AND Na Na Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye) deserves a medal. Or therapy. Maybe both.

The original version of this song is: Born To Be Alive (1979). And this is just a bad cover version.
