Album Review: Natural Do Rio De Janeiro by Zé Renato Alright, let’s talk about Natural Do Rio De Janeiro, the 2001 gem from Zé Renato. This Brazilian album is like a warm hug from Rio itself—full of samba vibes, MPB feels, and that unmistakable mix of tradition and pop flair. It’s got everything you’d want if you’re into Latin grooves or just need something chill but meaningful to vibe to. First off, the album’s got tracks composed entirely by Zé Keti, which is kinda cool because it gives it this cohesive feel, like every song belongs in the same universe. And honestly, some of these tunes? They stick with you. Like, Acender as Velas/Diz Que Fui por Aí. That one’s a bop. The melody is smooth, almost hypnotic, and the lyrics hit differently—kinda reflective, kinda raw. You can tell it’s rooted in real-life stuff, not just fluff. Plus, there’s something about how Zé Renato delivers it that makes you wanna close your eyes and sway. I mean, yeah, I’ve replayed this track way too many times. It’s one of those songs where you’re like, “Yo, this is deeper than I thought.” Then there’s Malvadeza Durão. Man, this one’s got attitude. It’s playful but sharp, like a wink and a smirk rolled into one. The rhythm is infectious—you’ll catch yourself tapping your foot even if you didn’t mean to. There’s something cheeky about the way the vocals bounce around with the instrumentation. Honestly, it’s the type of song that makes you wanna grab a drink (or three) and dance until you forget what day it is. Classic Brazilian energy right there. What’s wild is how this album feels both timeless and super specific to its era. Like, you could play this at a party today, and people would dig it, but it also has that early 2000s Warner Music Brasil stamp all over it. It’s nostalgic without trying too hard, y’know? Anyway, here’s the random thought I’ll leave you with: Listening to this album made me realize how much we take music for granted sometimes. Like, someone sat down and poured their soul into these tracks, and now here I am vibing to them years later. Feels kinda magical when you think about it. Or maybe I’m just overthinking it after listening to Psiquiatra one too many times. Who knows?
