Miguel Graça - Pineapple Remixes

Review by Joe

Alright, let’s dive into Pineapple Remixes by Miguel Graça. Released back in 2003 on Bombay Records, this Canadian deep house gem still hits differently. It’s not gonna change your life or anything, but it’s one of those albums that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. You know what I mean? First off, the track "Pineapple (Patrick Dream's Stripped Dub)"—man, this one sticks with me. It’s got this cool, laid-back vibe that feels like you're chilling on a beach at sunset, except you’re actually just stuck in traffic. The stripped-down beat lets the bassline do all the talking, and honestly? It’s kinda hypnotic. There are moments where it feels like the groove could go on forever, and you wouldn’t mind one bit. It’s perfect for those late-night drives or when you need something smooth playing in the background while pretending to adult. Then there’s "Pineapple (Miguel's Original Mix)." This version is more fleshed out compared to Patrick Dream’s take, with layers of synths that feel warm and inviting. It’s not trying too hard, which makes it even better. What gets me is how effortlessly it blends melody and rhythm—you can tell Miguel knows his stuff. It’s the kind of track that makes you wanna grab someone and sway awkwardly because dancing isn’t really your thing, but hey, the music says otherwise. The whole album has this chill, timeless quality to it. Like, sure, it came out in 2003, but it doesn’t scream “early 2000s!” You won’t find any cringey trends here, just solid deep house vibes. And yeah, maybe part of why I dig it so much is because it reminds me of simpler times before everyone was glued to their phones. But who knows? Maybe I’m overthinking it. Anyway, here’s the kicker: listening to Pineapple Remixes made me realize how rare it is to come across music that feels both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. Oh, and also—I now have an inexplicable craving for actual pineapples. Go figure.

About Miguel Graça

As a choir boy in his native Portugal, Miguel discovered his musical talent at an early age and explored it by studying the piano and developing his vocal skills. After playing in a band in the 80s Miguel began producing his own material. In 1991, at the age of 20, he produced his first club hit: "There 4 U" by M.G. Feat. Stephenson. It was awarded the supreme sign of recognition from the scene at the time by being bootlegged in New York City. "There 4 U" charted heavily in the U.K., played on regular rotation on Kiss 100 FM, and grabbed the attention of legendary Garage DJ/Producer Robert Ouimet, who became his production partner. Over the next 6 years Graça and Ouimet shared a studio and ran Front Records. They released many internationally-acclaimed house tracks together and developed a solid following for their Red Light moniker. Highlights of their prolific discography include "Who Needs Enemies," "The Dance," "Keep it Open" and "Thankful" Feat. David Gordon, all on Hi-Bias Records. "Thankful" went on to win the 1994 JUNO Award for best original dance recording.

Here’s a fun fact: The album *Pineapple Remixes* by Miguel Graça is a hidden gem in the world of Deep House. Released in 2003 under Canada's Bombay Records, it features just three tracks, but each one brings its own vibe. My personal favorite? Me my guitar and Miguel used to do loads of music at his studio (wich he still has todayat the same place  under the "Jacques Cartier's Bridge") after work (He was working as a DJ at the club on top of the restaurant where i use to work as a waiter for a living at (Primadonna ristorante e sushi bar)) and this particular track and most of all the tracks in the "SOUL NOT MIND Miguel' album from "Bombay Records" in Montrréal were done in 1998 and 1999 ! Peace y'all ;^) ♪♫
