- About Me: Julia D. Shaw has developed an extensive marketing career with over twenty years of experience providing the services of public relations, marketing and event management to a diverse array of clients. Julia is a true believer in “It takes teamwork to make a dream work” and has worked on a variety of PR campaigns, special events, awards programs, conferences, product launches, book signing, expos and festivals.
Julia has transitioned her years of entrepreneurial experience into providing consultation services to emerging brands. She does this by sharing lessons learned from her successes and failures with others at workshops, conferences and during individual coaching sessions.
Julia currently applies her talents as the PR Consultant for The Network for Women in Business, an online membership community for business development. Shaw also has served as the on-site Event Manager for several annual events including the Small Business Boot Camp for Women, sponsored by the Network for Women in Business, The National Black Writer’s Conference coordinated by The Center of Black Literature at Medgar Evers College lead by the visionary Dr. Brenda Greene; and The Network Journal Magazine’s two signature events, the 25 Influential Black Women in Business Awards and the 40 Under Forty Achievement Awards for over fifteen years.
In November 2014, Shaw, an Alumni of Workshop in Business Opportunities (WIBO) was profiled in the Alumni Spotlight on their website. She continues to give back to this program by serving as a discussion leader at their 16 week business plan program. Shaw has been featured in the NY Daily News, NY Amsterdam News and several other publications.
Julia was inspired by the friendship she developed with award winning children’s book author and illustrator John Steptoe to promote African American literature. She launched, Shaw Literary Group in 1995, focusing on the niche to market and sell African American literature. One of her first book projects was “Why should white guys have all the fun?”: How Reginald Lewis Created a Billion-Dollar Business Empire. She also worked infamous authors such as radio personality and author Michael Baisden, NY Times Bestselling author Iyana Vanzant and TV physiologist and author, Dr. Jeff Gardere early in their careers. A partial list of Shaw’s clients include Dr. Lindamichelle Baron, Apostle Lydia Woodson Sloley, Monica Mackayhan Richardson, African America Women on Tour, Circle of Sisters Expo, Cambria Heights Development Corporation, BET Books, the International African Arts Festival, Fort Greene Council, Brooklyn Arts Council, IMC Media, Inc., Pfizer, Inc., and Kimani Press, a division of Harlequin Enterprises to name a few. In September of 2013 Shaw became an author herself as one of the thirty women sharing networking tips in the Amazon Bestselling book entitled, Network to Increase Your Net Worth.
Julia was born in Charleston, SC. She attended CUNY York College in 1978 and graduated in 2013 earning a Bachelor's in Business Administration after a “25 year leave of absence.” Julia currently resides in Queens, New York and is the proud mother of two adult daughters, and three wonderful grandchildren.
