Клубничка by Президент & Амазонка: A Europop Time Capsule from Y2K Russia Alright, let’s dive into this wild ride called Клубничка. Released in 2000 under the label Видеосервис, this album is like that quirky friend who shows up uninvited but somehow steals the show. It’s a mix of Pop and Electronic vibes with a heavy dose of Europop charm—basically, it screams early 2000s nostalgia wrapped in shiny Russian packaging. First off, major props to Валерий Лобанов for wearing multiple hats here—he wrote both the music and lyrics for most tracks (shoutout to tracks 1-3 and 7-11). You can tell he had fun experimenting because this thing swings between karaoke-ready bangers and soundtrack-worthy oddities. Now, onto the good stuff—the songs! There are two tracks I just can’t shake off: “Клубничка” and “Мальчик-Одуванчик (Попс).” “Клубничка,” which literally translates to “Strawberry,” feels like biting into something sweet but kinda artificial, y’know? The Europop beat hits you right away, and before you know it, you’re swaying awkwardly in your kitchen pretending you’re at some neon-lit discothèque. And hey, they even threw in a karaoke version! Perfect if you wanna belt out random Russian words while impressing no one. This track sticks because it’s catchy as heck but also kinda cheeky—it doesn’t take itself too seriously, and neither should you. Other standouts include “Ту-Ту-Ту,” which sounds like an alien transmission gone funky, and “Инопланетянин” (Alien), where things get delightfully weird. Oh, and don’t sleep on “Цыплёнок” (Chick)—because apparently, Europop isn’t complete without poultry-inspired jams. Looking back, Клубничка is less of an album and more of a time capsule—a snapshot of post-Soviet Russia trying to figure out its place in the global pop scene. Sure, some parts feel dated now, but isn’t that part of its charm? Like those low-budget sci-fi movies from the ‘80s, it’s endearing precisely because it doesn’t try too hard to be cool. Final thought: If Europop were a fruit salad, Клубничка would be the strawberry on top—bright, slightly synthetic, but impossible to ignore. And honestly, who knew strawberries could groove like this?
